I was quoted $4,300 to repaint my car. That is just a repaint with the factory black color code, but it is a show quality paint job with 3 or 4 clear coats. It also comes with 1 car detail interior/exterior a year for as long as I own the car.

Some of it depends on how much orange peal you can live with. If you want it "gut slick" the labor will be a lot more because it will probably get wet sanded all the way up to 2000 or 2500 grit. If you are going that slick it will get more clear too to make sure there is enough clear left after you wet sand it.
The painter for our restoration company gets 30k on up for his paint jobs and no I'm not exaggerating or bragging.

I called our auto body supplier today and talked to him about paint. I'm going to paint my friends brothers 94 T/A in about a month. The price difference between the Omni line and PPG's top line is a bunch on the base, not as much on the clear.
For his car I'm going to use the Omni paint and the PPG clear. We sprayed a dodge truck a month or so ago. The Omni clear sands well but isn't as hard/durable as the PPG top line stuff.
However my auto body supplier said that it will take about 1 gallon of the Omni to cover the same amount as two quarts of the PPG. Getting a gallon of Omni is still cheaper than two quarts of PPG. I am going to use sealer so that should help.
When I do my Firehawk I am going to use the PPG top line color and clear but that will be a while. For the time being I think I am going to paint my hood "Hot Rod" black because we have some extra at work. My hood looks real bad from the paint pealing off behind the nostrils.

Being in the autobody business for many years I know that using a high quality basecoat will cover twice as good as a cheap one. For example Global will cover much better than Omni. As far as clear goes a high quality high solids such as 894 ppg global will wetsand and buff like a charm opposed to the cheaper ones which get really hard quick.
Lil Jay, you said that it would still be cheaper buying the omni even though you need more coats to cover. One thing with more coats of base is the chance of getting more dirt. Even though you can only see the dirt in the clear, most of it is coming from not having a perfect basecoatjob. What I'm saying is the least amount of coats of base the better as long as everything is covered well. 3-4 coats of B/C is usually what I shoot for unless it is a very light color.
