I'm thinking about doing my c5 z06 wheels. The only thing thats holding me back is the fact my are not in the greatest condition.
They're in decent condition but there's a few places beginning to pit and also spots where the chrome is has chipped off. Will more coats solve these problems or will it just end up looking like ****?
Talked to a guy from a wheel and tire shop and he said to get them sand blasted (or something like that) but I dont want to spend that kind of money. Any input??

Why not just try it? It's like $6/can.

Just an FYI, I recently sold my car with the wheels still plastidipped, they looked like complete dogshit so when i was giving it a good cleaning, i just said to hell with it and put some tire shine on it (foaming armorall for what its worth) and just ran the rag over it. IT LOOKED 100x BETTER! It was no longer a flat black, more of a matte wet look. Idk how its going to look after a few weeks but in the week left i had with it, it still looked great!

Did my WS9 hood to protect it until i get it painted. I ended up really liking it. I've done 3 sail panels, but never a large flat area like a hood. there are some areas i might redo, but it's not too bad.

Plastidip on the rear bumper cover (CETA) and the Trans AM badges. The best part was NOT removing badges, not having to reapply tape, and NOT makeing sure they are lined up perfectly. Also did the front license plate cover. dipped the firebird portion in black. No pic yet, just did it a few days ago. So far this stuff has held up great for three months. No chipping, pealing, and holds up to a wash!!

Dipped my Curva Concept wheels today, put the cans in front of a small heater fan for about 10 mins prior and in between coats. It sprays much much smoother and the cans go further. Normally takes me about 4 cans for a set this only took me 2.5 cans.

Bought a couple of cans of Plasti-Dip today and I put one can to use:

Also was testing out the "HDR-mode" on my phone's camera. It's meh, but it did alot of auto-correcting due to the bad lighting which saved me from having to do it, so IDGAF.
I'll likely do the mirrors tomorrow.

Ps- I washed the car prior to pics... but it doesn't really show That's what I get for rushing it.

ive been really thinking about attempting to do my whole car in a "snow camo" theme of black, grey and white and then black out my rims completely, thinking of doing it soon when it gets warm and my car will be down anyway for a bit soo, ill post up pics if i do!

any one have an idea of about how many cans this might be? thinking of doing whole car white then going in with the grey and black, like 8-10 white cans for whole car?

Thinking about doing gunmetal on my prostar knock-offs and still have a couple questions.

1. Can you mount/dismount tires while the wheels are "dipped"? My wheels currently don't have tires on them so do I need to wait until I get tires?

2. When you "dip" the wheels off the car and spray in the lug holes, does the dip come off when torquing down the lug nuts?

2.1. If it does come off while torquing, is it better to dip the wheels while mounted to the car, thus using the nuts to mask off the seat? And dismount the wheels while last cote is wet so that taking off lug nuts does not pull dip with it?

To those that have dipped a whole car, is it possible to get a good finish doing it outside? I don't have a garage and I'm worried about airborne contaminants getting in the dip.

When doing the ceta mod I just ruined the entire 4 coats I put on when I tried to take the tape off. Anyone have a suggestion as to how to avoid the tape pulling the Dip with it?

Thanks

Al
