Question Wild guess...repaint estimate

Hey all I have a red 99 Camaro SS that's showing its age. It sat in the sun for way too long when I was away in the military and the paint isn't up to standard. It seems as if the clear coat took a heck of a beating, bubbling/pealing on the hood and spoiler particularly.

Anyways, my question is, how much would it cost (ball park estimates) to respray it? No color change, no interior, nothing fancy, just something close to factory. There's no body damage.

I just need to know what to expect (again, ball park) so I don't get ripped off and I can start saving.

1200 likely.

Unless they can take it down to the base coast then clear over it again. If they could do that you're talking peanuts.

If you want it done right, it's gonna cost at least 3-4 thousand. If you want it half assed, probably 1 thousand.

x2. I'd guess more in the $2500-$3500 range. Price ALWAYS reflects in the quality.

What many people don't take into consideration is the prep/finish work. 10's of hours go into that, it's meticulous work and takes a long time to do it all, and do it all correctly. A very reputable body shop (owned by a family friend) ball-parked me $5,000-6,000 for a high quality, factory-spec paint job in every nook, cranny, crevis of a car.

Like the others said, you get what you pay for. Find a reputable shop (not neccesarily the most expensive but definately not the cheapest) and get some quotes.

You could always learn to paint yourself, buy all the tools and save tons of money and maybe even paint some of your friends cars for a price.

All the trim that breaks coming off or is faded/cracked adds up the cost quick. Look at $3000 plus for a quality job

Look up the paint warranty. You might be able to sue GM for a repaint. It's been done before

You show me someone who has won a lawsuit for "paint failure" on a 13+ year old car and then I will show you a 4 horned unicorn.

If the clear is peeling there's now way to get it flat without priming and blocking it ... everywhere it is broken through will leave an uneven edge ... sometimes a good sealer will take care of it, sometimes not. You also run the risk of the paint wrinkling around the broken through edges because of the hot solvents in the paint... we start our paint jobs around 1800 for a fairly basic paint job with very little body work ... that doesn't include the jams, but does get you a full rub and buff job after its painted.
