Is it possible to paint your engine bay with the motor still in?
Im giving my 30th ann z the works and have the top end off for upgrades and paint. While im at it it would be great to get the wheel wells and everything in the engine bay looking crispy too! Is there anyone who has done this without the motor pulled?
I figure if i pull all the wiring, lines, ect out of the way good enough, and plastic bag the engine with enough care i could pull it off.. Not looking for a total refinish or smoothing here, just a good sand down and fresh paint.

I was thinking it should be no problem if i conceal the engine with plastic drop sheets. There isnt much to mask...
Meh, maybe ill just do it and post some pics.

My cars a 30th ann, white and orange stripes so the bay is obviously white. I plan on just redoing it with duplicolor arctic white and a tough clear enamel.

I painted my engine in my El Camino orange while it was in the car, but was torn down to a short block (painted heads off the car). Then once the paint was dry I put a bunch of bags/paper over it and sprayed the engine bay flat black. It still looks good 10+ years later. The only downside is the orange on the engine wasn't prepped great in all the spots and it also gets really dirty. Luckily the black still looks good.

Honestly, something that is really easy to do to cover the engine so you won't have overspray is buy a couple rolls of aluminum foil and cover what you don't want to be painted. If you tape up you could spend all day taping. Its an unorthodox method but it is really easy.

I painted my engine bay with everything still in it. Just used paper and an old blanket to block overspray. I juststarted spraying haha. Well i prepped the surface first but yeah. It was pretty rusted before. Sanded it all off cleaned it and here you go!
