ultra Z hood stress cracks, common problem?
I have been looking at getting an ultra Z hood for my z28 and noticed a lot of the used ones I see have stress cracks around the intake opening. I am not sure if they are SLP or VFN hoods but is this a common problem with these style of hoods? I would hate to buy one and a year or 2 later, its full of stress cracks too. Any input from long time ultra z hood owner?

No not now soon I hope, the other thing is where the hood support brackets is VERY cheap there's only a 1/8" robot holding what looks like a fender speed fastner so make sure urs had antiseeze on the threads the guy be for me didn't and I went to tighten it and it broke now I think I gotta make a cut to get it out

Same here - I have the same cracks just center left - passenger side in the scoop opening area all the way to the leading edge of the hood.
Mine has also bubbled on the rear drive side just over the area for the hood brackets.
Mine cracked literally while parked in the garage. It is rarely driven. It's a garage queen.
As for the functionality of the scoop. IMO it is hardly functional in letting a large amount of air into the engine bay. I got mine because I thought it would help to reduce engine bay temps - it doesn't help at all. I have an ATI Progcharger D1SC so the hood is not functional for air into the engine.
That said I still like the looks and appearance of the hood.

Bummer to hear about all the problems. I was hoping to get this hood but maybe I will look at something else. I wonder if its a design flaw or material defects?

if the cracks are coming from closing the hood and the fiberglass bending as that happenes with other fiberglass hoods you can get struts that dont have so much pressure and that should help quite a bit.
