Peeling Paint repair help
Hello,
On my 01 Trans Am there is peeling paint on the passenger rear quarter panel. I am not sure what happened when this car was with its previous owner but this is the only section where the paint is peeling. I would like to repair it because it is bothering me but I am unfamiliar with the process of painting any part of a car. I am hoping that you all can point me in the right direction or if i can even do this myself. Is it possible to repair just the peels or do I have to paint the entirety of the quarter panel ?

This is a clear coat failure. There are many videos on YouTube, but essentially it needs sanded and repainted. It will require blending into door, hatch and bumper. You are looking at least a $500 repair, more if custom shop. Please don't waste your money on spray paint repair, it won' hold up. Get a couple quotes from different shops. Ask questions on how he/she will make the repair, not just cost. i.e., will you blend into adjacent panels, what brand paint to you use, warranty of work?

^^^^^^This. The original problem that you had was that the quarter had been painted improperly in the past. Only way to fix it is to sand off all of the old clear which is next to impossible without burning through the base -color- coat. Not trying to be a negative nancy, but the chances of that holding up are pretty slim.

Lol, not in prison
They showed me the process of them painting it, I didn't get pictures of that but it was sanded pretty good.
The end cost was 560 I think.
