Bubbling Sail Panel Issue for Dummies
#1061
Just wondering if anyone has gotten this fixed by a chevy dealer free of charge in Oklahoma or West Arkansas??? Would love to know!!!!!
If not,, what can I do to try to get my roof fixed, who do I call? ??
Fayeteville Auto Park in Arkansas allready turned me down and gave a 900.76 dollar bill. I laughed and said, "that 76 cents is gona break me, never mind"

If you have skills you could do the repair yourself, I've seen a writeup on the forum for it.

I just had my hard top replaced by a custom body shop, i got the shell for cost 400.00, 600.00 to paint and install the new one. Yes it sucd GM boned me (us) but what the body guy told me really pissed me off was that the prep on the underside of the roof was no prep, another words the idiots used the glue against the raw bottom of the roof, it was never primer sealed as GM stated should be done on now, my body guy thinks the glue interacting with the roof shell material and heat caused the issue here. Just my nickel on this, i am glad is fixed and have moved on, good luck to others.

Being an Id10T I just discovered this problem wasn't an easy sand down, primer and paint job. Has anyone done an official count of how many members have had these problems? Possibly by getting numbers we could do a sort of petition or group complaint to GM. The scary part is I'm wondering where GM is gonna skimp/***** up on the 2010 Camaro? Makes me seriously consider a 350Z, etc.

So let me get this straight? My bubbling roof 2002 SS cant be fixed because it was manufactored in july of 2002? even if it has 76k on it? Has anybody recently had theirs done?

That is thier scripted response to anyone who has a complaint about the sail panel. Trust me, they know about it. If they "didn't" know about it there would not have been a TSB issued for service managers to know the procedure to fix it.

This is all real disappointing to read. My '02 Z28 hardtop (built Feb. 2002) has 17.5K miles on it and is starting to bubble badly. You can see the texture all around the roof panel plus it has actually bubbled through the clear coat and ruptured in a couple of spots. All this from a car that is essentially always in storage in a garage. NICE! I thought maybe it got something on it while it was in storage over the winter and it wasn't until I was talking to a fellow Camaro owner this week that I found out this was a known issue. I guess I'll start contacting area dealerships on Monday and see what happens.

Hello all. New member here. Found the site while looking for information regarding my bubbling roof. I think I may have the low mileage record on this one. 2001 Ram Air Trans Am. Bought new off the showroom floor in Aug '01. Roof is bubbling like crazy with 3,000 miles (THREE THOUSAND!!!) miles on it. Went to the dealer I bought it from this past Saturday. (Pete Baur Pontiac in Strongsville OH has the crappiest service anywhere) Service manager said that they repaired an '02 a while back and GM covered 50%, but he would have to talk to the GM rep and get back to me. Got the call today. GM is going to completely bone me on the entire thing, "regardless of mileage. That vehicle is too old." I have bought 3 GM vehicles in the past 7 years. Never again. I asked if they would sell me the roof panel at cost, and he said that wasn't his department. Thanks for the help Baur Pontiac! Anyone know of a decent Pontiac dealer in NE Ohio?
