Default surface rust removal...

Hello everyone!
As the title states, whats the cheapest, easiest way to remove LOTS of surface rust? this car is not going to be a show car/restoration, but a daily driver. the panels need to be smooth enough so that a flat black paint job makes the car look complete, not a project car. (nice flat black, not rattle can- flat black so its cheaper, and if scratched can be redone easier than a base/clear job) well, here are a few pics of the car we MIGHT be purchasing, and putting an LSx/t56 into:

Theres a shop nearby that does media blasting, is that what it would take? could another cheaper method be done without scarring the panels?
Last question what would the metal underneath the rust look like?
Thanks guys, looking forward to the info!

for something that large, I would have the whole shell sand blasted.

Thanks everyone for your opinions, but i looked into media blasting and if what i saw was right (about $1000-1300) that wont be the way were going, thats like 1/2 the price of the car.

after reading this i looked into navy jelly, that seems interesting, i also found another forum that wrote up on how to use the stuff. But it didnt say on average how much it would take for a car, or how liberally to apply it to the panel. Does anyone know how much navy jelly it would take to rid the car of the rust; just a ballpark idea; im thinking like 4-6 bottles (16 oz's each) what do you guys think?

The media blast wont take that off, either. It will remover paint and light filler, but aluminum oxide (sand) is needed to get rust that bad off. Unfortunately sandblasting will warp the panels badly.
There is no cheap solution to that. The only way to completely eliminate it is to have the car chemical dipped. ($$$) You can get most of it with phosphoric acid (ospho) and a few rolls of 36 and 80 grit DA paper. I would estimate 50-80 hours to get that body in epoxy or acid etch primer, even then don't be surprised if it comes back.

oh, im assuming that it will come back, we have a 68 roadrunner, and it needs treatment in certain areas about every 5 years like the trunk lid, and lower quarter panel etc. as far as time, i think that 50-80 hrs is reasonable, id rather spend time than money. As long as it can be done, and affordably.

You'll have about $3-400 in epoxy primer, sandpaper and ospho. It's time consuming but easy work.
