Default scratches in the windshield - possible to fill or polish out?

Apparently something a little abrasive got on the windshield of my car and the previous owner just used the washers to wipe it off, because all across the windshield in the wiper area are these really fine scratches. They catch sunlight and headlights and cause a lot of glare. There are also some small pits in the glass that look almost like dust specs but those are small enough that they aren't near as annoying. At first I thought it was just a greasy film so I cleaned it really well and I think I just made it worse because now all the dirt it out of the scratches allowing them to catch even more light

Is there something I can do to either fill in the scratches or polish them out so they aren't there anymore? Or do I have to replace the windshield to be rid of it

I found it is gonna cost me just over $200 to have a new windshield put in. I really don't want to spend that much, I'm broke enough as it is. Plus with this other noise I've got (see gen maintenance) I don't know what else I may have to do.

This isn't my day I guess. First I find out I have $500 of repairs to do to my front end. Then I called the glass place and found the only thing to do with those real fine scratches is to replace the windshield. No real way to fill them in. That is another $200.

So I have roughly $700 worth of stuff I need to do, and I'm broke

I'm taking donations...

You don't *need* to replace a scratched windshield.

The glare is awful at night though, especially when it is rainy

But I can't afford to replace it right now so it'll have to wait.

Check your insurance laws. Some states have it where you can get a new windshield once every year if *something* happened to it.

Yeah in Kentucky if you have Full Coverage the insurance has to replace it if it's cracked and up to 2 a year.....
