me personally, i hand lay all my flames by hand with 1/8th inch fine line tape. but i am pretty sure eastwood sells flame stencils. just get the sticky mickeys paper trace the flame then cut it out and paint. very easy. just make sure of two things,
1: get a credit card or bondo spreader to smooth the paper and it helps it stick.
2: use a sharp blade but do not push too hard to where the blade goes into the paint.
the paper you can get from eastwood. and i thought i saw pre made flames in eastwood as well once. just check out there site

i found some on ebay
i think i understand how to do it now. i cant wait to try it.
maybe i have it wrong tho. but i paint the area where the flames will be the color it'll be.. then i take a stencil and trace it on paper that will stick to the car and put on the car real good. then i paint the rest of the car. and when its dry. i peel the flame sticker off and it's the different color flame. then i spray the clearcoat on the whole car?

The March issue of Super Chevy has an article on how to paint some realistic flames with a more in depth article to come out in the April issue. They make it look easy enough.
