Painting Chrome Bumpers?
I have the half chrome bumpers and chrome strip grille on my tahoe and i want them black. can you sand off all the chrome (starting kinda rough and graduating up to something super fine) then prime it good and paint it? someone told me you couldnt but i cant see why not. im not gonna pay $200 each for paintable bumpers then pay to paint them but if i can just paint these then i want to do it.

if you leave the chrome on in any way the paint isnt going to stick well. your best bet is to sand blast the chrome off or have the chrome chemically stripped then use a 1k primer or a wash primer for the bare metal to prevent corrosion.

i didnt know if sandblasting it would beat up the surface too much and make it not a slick paintjob. atleast with sandpaper you can keep going up, but damn would it take forever (didnt think about the time it would take to sand really lol)

have it blasted, epoxy prime it, then lay down some filler to make it nice and straight, then sand it to make it nice and smooth 2K prime it, then prep and paint, you can tackle it in a day once you get it back from blasting. oh yeah, make sure to cut out any cancer or it will come back
