Default Any MAJOR difference between HPtuners and EFIlive?

I dont want to start a flaming discussion here. I was just curious if there are any MAJOR differences between the tuning interfaces that would be the deciding factor for me. I will be buying one of the two (HPtuners or EFIlive) soon along with a wideband setup (would appreciate input on as well) to tune my swap project. It is a 05 LQ4 with PRC stg 2.5 heads and torquer 3 cam. Let me know, thanks.

Price, Real time tuning, custom operating systems, licensing, GUI, tables, features, support, etc. You name it there are differences between the two.

If you have any specific questions regarding our product please don't hesitate to ask here or by emailing sales at hptuners.com so we can further assist you.

In a word no.
IMO HPT suits newb's more as the interface is more basic, EFI supports more advanced data manipulation, maps etc so better for more experienced blokes.
But they both get the job done well.

As others have mentioned, there are little differences in end functionality. Both have access to exactly the same tables. What you can do in one, you can pretty much do in the other. Each one also has pros and cons.

I've used both and bought HPTuners for myself. It was a better solution for myself, and cost a lot less for more functionality.

EFI live is a fine product, but where it really shines is with using a Roadrunner PCM. That sort of real time tuning is pretty much unparalled. HPTuners offers real time tuning as well, but not at the same level. However, to get to that level.....you gotta pay. Looking at over 1K more to get that functionality. For many professionals, I'd say go for it. But for casual users, not worth it, IMO.

So basically they both do the same stuff in a round about way, correct? HPtuners is more user friendly and EFI live is able to change a little more stuff? Which one is easier to tune with a wideband and do I need a wideband o2 sensor in both headers?

They are both easy to tune with a wideband and most only use 1 wideband/probe usually located in the ypipe or near the end of one of the exhaust headers.

I always had a bung set on the drivers outside portion of the ypipe so I didn't need to even jack the car up to install the sensor so I could just monitor as needed and remove it when I'm finished.

So you dont need to have a wideband on both banks? Which wideband setup would you recommend? Do both interfaces have AutoVE? Lots of random questions I know, but Im willing to learn. Thanks for the help so far.

Yes, Both have auto VE, and most LS1 operating systems support RTT which also allows you to tune your VE table in real time with our software.

The Serial Interface of EFI LIVE is a good advantage. No Voltage offset problems giving false readings when using serial instead of analogue for your wideband. Plus the V2 has a screen so you can monitor all your logging while driving without the need to lug a laptop all the time.

Yes, that would be the only real MAJOR difference between the two. EFILive V2 has the serial interface for WB input and a screen that you can view the data being logged while logging in black box (no laptop) Mode and you can log MUCH longer in BB mode with a memory card in the hand held part of the unit.

EFILive's custom OS's have some cool features. Also if you want true hardware emulation, roadrunner is the only option.

Our custom operating systems use credits but our premium system is $150 less than EFI's so the playing field is pretty even in that sense.

Our Top of the line Pro MPVI interface is $649+shipping.
