Just got finished doing the swap. Since the VSS switch and connector are the same on the A4/M6 i just plugged it in. Well, it will register to about 40mph then just stops?
anybody got any suggestions?

Not yet....but i figured with it being the same parts that the signal should be the same also. Its gonna be like 2 weeks before i can get it done. Or can the dealer flash it for me?

The pulses per mile are different, plus I think the actual signals are a little different hardware wise.
You need to get your PCM flashed for an M6.
Dealer MIGHT do it if you have an M6 VIN. Some are cool with it, some aren't.

Huh?!?
I just went from a T56 to a 4L60E. The signals are identical. You MUST have the M6 harness to make the swap work. Just plug it in and it should work, no sweat. I swapped with T/A Medic on the west coast. He got the easy install because he took the M6. The hard swap is TO the A4. He just plugged in my old M6 harness and the trans and flew.

if the connectors on both harnesses are IDENTICAL along with the SENSORS, why would the harness make a difference unless the PCM had something to do with it. I used the A4 harness for everything else and it works. ????

hmm... I'm not sure how LS1 edit works.
Make sure your segment 1 ID's are the same.
I don't want to give you bad advice and see you screw up your car. This is a tricky topic.

If your using GM SPS software then yes the VIN will definitely change.
Make extra sure that the segment 1 ID's match between both files!!

john,
Would the file difference have anything to do with the speedo reading wrong? i'm gonna try a new sensor tonight hoping that the other is just bad.

If you are using an A4 PCM with an M6 trans, then the scaling for the speedo is quite a bit different, which would make it read wrong; I'm not sure about it going to 40MPH and then stopping.
Does it seem correct from 0-40?
When I've had scale mismatches in cars before, it seems like it's usually reading 10 when I'm going 70, or I'm going 30 and the speedo says 100; stuff like that.

the sensor is at the end of the output shaft. i would think it would read the same if its auto or manual. its basically how fast the driveshaft is spinning and thats not trans dependant. might be all good once you tell your pcm what trans you have.

i hope so. but then again, "officer I was only doing 40 mph, get in, i'll show ya" lol..
after this i have another bug to fix with my headlamp issue. for whatever reason, it decided to pop up and down when i lock the car with the fob and you can hear the drivers motor run for a minute after it is already shut. they even pop up when you just turn the parking lights on now.

Seeing 40 on the speedo when you are running 85 actually makes sense. Since the M6 has a 17 tooth reluctor wheel and the A4 has a 40 tooth:
If you take the tooth ratio (17/40) times the known speed (85mph), that equals 36 mph, which is about what you are seeing on the speedo.
