E38 Pinout for OBD II Port
I read that the CAN bus should measure 60 ohms across pin 6 and 14 because there are two 120 ohm termination resistors that combined are 60ohms. I am reading 120 ohms across pin 6 and 14?
pin 27 of ecu to 14 of dlc
pin 28 of ecu to 6 of dlc
pin 4 and 5 are grounded
Pin 6 has continuity to pin 28 on ECM
Pin 14 has continuity to pin 27 on ECM
Pin 16 is B+

ECM communicates to a programming setup on bench at tuning shop but not to my Innova 3030 code reader that supports "29-bit extended CAN) systems. As stated it would not communicate to different handheld CAN reader either.

is the ecu in a conversion or the correct vehicle?
what are you using to scan this ecu with? (does it work in another car)
does the car run? (maybe ecu is just faulty)
is the ecu turning on? has igniton and earth and battery power???
if you wiring is exactly as stated above and the scan tool is correct one and works on another e38 i would say the ECU is dead.

As Stated: Using Innova 3030 code reader. Works perfect in my 2001 F350.
Car runs perfect, only has shifting issues, and on the bench at programmer shop it has stored TPS codes. BTW in order to find that out the CAN bus clearly is working in the ECU!
Before I can troubleshoot the shifting problem I need to be able to read the codes IN the Car.
All of the OBD II port wires have been ohmed out to the correct place on the ECU connector, B+ and chassis ground but I am uncertain about signal ground? I have tried it connected to chassis ground as suggested but no joy.

The ECM runs the car fine and communicates to the bench setup at the programmers but not to the handheld when in the car??
I really need some assitance and don't have $$ to take it to a shop again. I've done the whole conversion, wiring and all myself and so far everything has worked correctly except this. I need to be able to read the codes in the car.
Has anyone seen or have one of these boxes: http://www.strategictq.com/files/CAN_TEST_BOX.pdf
It may be able to find the problem with my port?
