Default vats questions, searched and searched....

okay, just need a final answer.....searched and searched and came up with so much info its crazy!!!

car will not start sometimes, its just random.....6 spd car, changed the switch out on the pedal already as well as the ignition switch awhile back.

so put the key in turn it over and nothing....security light will blink at the one second rate...does not stay on or lock out for 3 mintues....

also the big thing is i can roll the car, pop the clutch and drive, it will not die after starting it???

vats bypass with resistors?
new cylinder?
what??

thanks in advance!!!

Check the small wire at the solenoid. Connect a meter or test light to the wire, try to crank.
If you have voltage your starter is junk, if you don't have voltage, check the starter relay. If you have crank input to the starter relay and no output, replace the relay.

Exclamation

i had the exact same problem with my car it was the vein of my existence for 2 years i hated and it only gets worse. the way i fixed it is find out what resistance is on your key and go buy a resister from radioshack and there is a plug under the dash that goes to the BCM bend the resister to a u shape and plug it in to the plug leave unpluged and tape it out of the way never ever happened again knock on wood....

If you can bump start it then its not VATS because the pcm is allowing fuel. Sounds like a starter issue.

kinda what i was thinking after doing all the research....it will bump start everytime and stay running.....

could it be the key cylinder and not affect the vats???

or maybe as simple as the starter, just hate to replace that if its not the problem, easy to do but money!!!!

thanks, keep em coming!!!

Could be the electrical ignition switch not the key cyl. Thats why you need to check for power on the purple wire at the solenoid when it acts up. Otherwise you're guessing.

if you are referring to the white plastic switch that is on the top of the column under the dash, already replaced it a year ago when this first started.....

just wondering?

Yeah thats the switch. Does it only happen when the engine is hot? Solenoids sometimes act up when they are hot.
