A friend of mine is looking at a 96 camaro with a bad PCM that will only run for a short time then die.
Does anyone know what the PCM part no would be? is it OBD 2? and does anyone have one for sale?
thanks.

lol so you're saying it's not and i got a PM saying all 1996+ cars are OBD2 which is what i orginally though until i read somewhere that the 3800 camaro was obd1 part way through 96. I'm trying to figure out which kind of PCM to have my friend buy without actually seeing the car first since its ~ 200 mi away.

it says it may need to be reprogrammed? if its coming from a 96 camaro V6 and going into the same year car it shouldn't need reprogramming right? doesn't the VATS go through the BCM on 96+ cars?

Now that I think about, '96s might only be OBDI. I know for a fact that you can swap in a '97 OBDII PCM though. I wouldn't get anything but a '97 PCM.
Check out Fullthrottlev6.com, there used to be a lot of V6 F-body guys over there.

ok, OBDII was made mandatory back in 96, however, GM is the exception because they designed it, i have a 95 OLDS achieva that is OBDII, and know that OBDII has been used on some cars as far back as '93. I know for a fact that the 1st zr1 from '94 is in fact OBDII. what sucks is that some can be OBDII an some can be OBDI or hybrids, so you pretty much have to identify it. check the DLC
