Default Bench harness and LS1 edit unlimited

I am looking at buying the various LS1 Edit unlimted packages for my shop. Does anyone know for sure if thier are bench harnesses available that will allow me to flash on the bench. Since I am looking at an investment, I would like the option to flash outside the cars.

Thks

Speartech sells them. You could also make your own from a junkyard PCM harness if you know the pin-outs.

You can make them if you want.

I did so for the 97/98 PCMs and one for the 99 to present PCMs to do "off board" tuning.

Thanks for the replies. I emailed SpearTech. I cann't find a phone number on their site so I am waiting to hear back. After some research it seems that the Carputing people dont' make the cables that work with thier software anyway. Is this true? Who are they in bed with?

I think Camaroholic on this site makes their cables.

Thxs. Speartech told me I only needed two cables and for only like $300 or so. A bargain considering the $15k for the software.

For that kind of investment, you might want to hang a bit (on the software) and check how things go with hptuners - www.hptuners.com

I finally found the 97-98 PCM pinout in the Archive.org web site. I put it on my page.

http://www.akmcables.com/98-PCM.htm

LS1.com removed it from their web site.

You can build a benchtop harness pretty cheaply - GM sells the LS1 connector for about $20, and then you need some PCM pins (I think they're about $.75 ea, or you can use cut ones out of harnesses).

For a 98 PCM, all you need is:

Ground - Blue 21 & 60
+12V - Blue 19, 20, 61

Data on Pin Blue 58

This is NOT THE SAME as a 99+ PCM. Do not use this pinout on them. You'll kill the PCM. You'll need to move a few wires around.

Note that you only need the blue connector.

My benchtop harness is homebrew, ugly, but it works fine.

Thxs for the info guys. If hptuners had a product now I would buy it. I cann't wait for some unsure release dates. Truthfully, I would be out of business if I waited on companies like that. Plus, the software may be buggy in the beginning. I cann't take chances on stuff like that considering the money people spend on their motors. I will more than gladly pay Speartech for premade cables. It will only take one tune to pay for the cables and my soldering skills are not pretty either.

BTW, Your OBD1 cable you made me years ago is still going strong.

BTW, how is Carputings update service? Do they have regular updates to thier software? Not going to throw cash away if I don't get anything.

Default bench top programming cable

Does anybody have the pin outs for a 2000-2002 cable?

What are you using for a power supply?

Holy cobwebs! Someone's been diggin' in the basement!

I just use an old 300 watt PC power supply. They have pretty decent voltage regulation, and I've had no problems with it. As far as the wiring goes, I can't remember exactly...but on the "411" PCMs, you'll only be needing to use 6 wires on the "Blue" header.

LOL yeah this thread is really old, I remember it when it popped up in 2004. As for wiring diagrams in case someone is still looking, If you download EFIlive for free at www.efilive.com then open up the 7.5 software and go to the HELP tab, then Tutorial, There is a very nice bench harness instruction tutorial in there. It even has pictures.
