Default EFI Live questions

I have a 98 SS and just put a cammed ls6 block in it with stock intake, heads, and flowmasters. It needs programmed/tuned. Doesnt like to idle. My buddy has a EFI live programmer he's used to put tunes in his duramax trucks. My question is can we use it to do my car? where can I get a tune? what do i need to buy/get?

Assuming he's running the current version, yes he can use it to tune your car. You will likely need a WBO2 sensor to do a half way decent job of it. If y'all are unfamiliar with what you need to change to have a well running vehicle, there's a LOT of reading that you need to do. It's not just flipping a few switches and tah-daahh, it's perfect.

Where are you located? What kind of cam did you put in?? What are the supporting mods (lid, headers, injectors, etc)???

PS - I highly advise you don't drive with anywhere with more than 30% throttle until you get it tuned. Even as it sits, there's likely too much timing down low and not nearly enough fuel up top.

it is the current version, and we are not very firmiliar with it. his tunes came from somebody else.

my specs: 6 speed, ls6 block, arp head studs, texas speed torquor v2 cam 232/234 595 598 112+2, thunder racing dual 650 lift valve springs titanium retainers, 7.4 hardened push rods, stock 241 heads, ls6 valley cover, flowmasters, everything else bone stock.

Shoot - wish u were closer. Hell of a lot easier to show things in person. Well, I can tell you where certain things need to be as a base. The hardest part will be to get the AFR dialed in. For that, a WBO2 will come in handy as I mentioned. Shoot me a PM when you're ready to start messin' with it.

98's are unlimited with EFI Live - so no he doesn't need one. As for the stock tune, I would read what's in the car and use the compare feature to one of the stock 98 files posted up over at http://www.tunefiledepot.com/.

Like a fabricator says, "measure twice & cut once." Unless you're the original owner of the car and be 100% certain nobody has touched it, I'd double check. That way you know you're starting from a clean base...

The problem with 98's is that they are a single segment file so there could, technically be a dozen or more operating systems for a single vin...trying to find the same operating system may prove difficult to compare against.

Hix - when you get a chance, try to read the stock file out of the PCM and post it up. If you can't attach it here, you can do it over on the EFI Live forums and we can continue our discussion there.

Oh - I was going to say... Yeah, you can't throw the '99 tune in the car. Different OS, different PCM pinouts for some wires, etc.
