I swapped my car from a4-m6 last summer and have been driving with the stock auto PCM and harness since, just by jumpering the necessary neutral switch wires and hatch release etc. I now have a guy offering to trade me his factory M6 PCM and harness for my auto stuff, but his car is a 98 and mine is a 99, I am told they are different and won't work. is this true, and if so what is the difference? is it something I could work around?

you can use them kinda, youd have to repin the connections to the PCM one by one, and there are some other problems like the instrument clusters... just wait for a 99-02 cuz its a pain in the *** to repin the PCM unless your really know your ****.

search for a pin out diagram for both years... if you already did the a4 to m6 you might can do the repin, its not too hard, but you need to get the instrument cluster problem figured out too or youll have a bunch gauges that dont work right.
