I bought a USB to Serial adapter from Radio Shack. It has worked fine so far. I thought it should have been cheaper since it was an actual Radio Shack brand but it was the same as others I have priced.

So, does Radio Shack also have the connector that plugs into the car port?
If not, what company sells the entire cable, I don't care about price.

I just reread the title and now I am confused, you have ATAP correct? If so then all you will need to do is buy a USB to Serial cable adapter. Take your old ATAP cable connect into the serial part of the adapter cable and the other end goes into the USB. You do not need to purchase an entirely new cable if you already have one. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

The link above is just for a cable but it warns against plugging directly into a computer. Not sure whether it is a valid warning or just something to stop people from buying cables and not the software. Also not sure whether the 9pin connector is a serial or not.

Why don't you just go to www.autotap.com and buy the cable from them? The sofware is always free to download so all you're paying for is the cable anyway... Plus they have new versions that plug directly into a USB port instead of needing a USB-Serial converter...

Maybe I'll just forget about it.

Go read some at autotap.com
I think I see what you're saying. You downloaded autotaps software but you don't have the hardware. The hardware is what you're buying from them the software is free and doesn't do you any good without the hardware. $199 for generic parameters + $99 for GM enhanced parameters or $199 for generic + $238 for efilive standard. Hope this helps clear it up for you some.
