running/tuning without IAC valve?

Default running/tuning without IAC valve?

Has anyone run or tuned a car with a cable throttle body without the IAC valve wired? I have a 2004 pcm and switching to cable TB. Do I absolutely have to get a DBC compatible PCM? I'd assume it would just kind of act like a carbed car and idle low when cold instead of adjusting according. Just wondering if anyone else has ever done this?

Its really annoying because, as the conditions change, the idle will change. it will be too low when you start and too high when its hot. A negative impact on drivability and economy.

Service number is 12576106

I figured it would just act like a carb idling low until it warms up. I'm not exactly a tuner myself, but does HPTUNERS let you advance the idle timing before it reaches temp? I know that's not the exact best way of doing things, but it would keep the idle up.

We have run a few race cars with 4150 style TB's without IAC's and they work fine but thats a totally different animal. I would recommend just getting the right pcm, will save alot of headaches IMO. We sell them for $100 with a stock tune in them.

The hardware # is the 12570558.

So what I'm seeing then is that this is a 2003 PCM but has the blue/green connectors like 2004+. Are the pinouts a 2003 or 2004?

I used this as the pinout reference when modifying my harness

03 - 04 pinouts should be the same. I was going to say it was a 03 PCM but sometimes they can bleed over into the next year. Here is about everything you will need know about converting to DBC.

And LSX Power Tuning can help you with setting it up with the proper express van calibration if you don't have that ability.

Yes sir, I found that page too. That's how I found out it was a 2003 PCM. I have a local tuner here I was going to take it to. I'll see what he has to say for the programming stuff. The motor is a 5.3 with the LSA blower. So I was planning on trailering it to him anyway.

I appreciate all your info. If I do need the express van stuff I'll get back with you

The Express Van is one of the few vehicles that used that PCM and had a DBC TB That's why you need to use as a starting point. Also there are both 2 and 3 bar SD custom operation systems available for it which you will want to use with that blower.

i just completed this swap in my truck pretty straight forward make sure you go into system options and change the dbw setting from 1 to 0 thats all you need to do after its wired
