Default HELP DEAD GOAT cant find ECM anywhere!!!

I have a 2005 GTO 6 speed and recently its been not wanting to start in the morning. I can wait till it warms up and it strangely will start and have no problems all day long. When it doesnt start it throws the code P0601 and i get a reduced performance and it shuts down. Sometimes it doesnt start at all or it will start and shut off. Either way i took it to the stealer and they tell me the the ECM has been discontinued!!!! They cant get it, I have tried calling everyone I can think of to find this ECM and believe it or not no one person has one. Now before people start sending me Ebay postings of the ECM please read it most are a ECM that requires a special harness or is for a tune or so on and so forth. I need a E40 ECM compatible for the 2005 GTO. My part number is 19210071 and as Im told these following service #'s are the only ones compatible. 12578554, 12596771, 12597191, 12597883. Thing is I cant believe its the ECM but GM wont touch it unless the computer is replaced because they say the car might not start again if the computer is reprogrammed. Basically I have a GTO i cant use. No local junkyards have it. No autoparts store, standalone ECM is $3000, can find one for sale in forums, nothing on ebay, and no retailer online refurbishes them because its a GTO, No one seems to have 1 ECM for sale anywhere. There has to be other GTO with the same issue or a work around for this. Can someone shed some light on this for me!!!

My next attempt is to take it to a performance shop and reflash it but I wonder if i take it to someone in the performance industry if its the same as a reprogram. Meaning if I put a aftermarket tune on it is it the same as the dealer reprogramming it? Ive heard that a reprogram should work if not the computer would have to be replaced. Ive also read that BCM PCM PIM and the keys need to be resynced to clear this program BUT the only people who can do that is GM. Is a resync different then reprogramming the ECM? When I asked about a resync they looked at me like i had 3 eyes. Told me if they wouldnt reprogram without another computer because it might not start back up because of the code.

Car-part.com can likely find what you need.

I have actually checked there but only a few minutes before this post. Is there a option to put in what I need and wait?

If your ECU has stopped working, a tune probably won't help it. Its not as if they factory tune has suddenly changed on its own to a point where it no longer works.

Almost any E40 ECU should be able to be used as long as its flashed with the factory tune for your vehicle. It doesn't have to be specific to your vehicle.
A buddy of mine got one from a Monte Carlo and had it flashed for his 06 GTO a few years back.

JoeNova has been around this stuff a long time and knows what he's talking about. I would heed his advice.

You will need one with the correct service number.

It has to be the correct service number. E38, E40, and E67 cant just be flashed to anything, has to be the correct service number.

Those service numbers that he posted cover such a huge range of vehicles and ECUs in 2005 that he would have to purposely try to get the wrong one.
The problems will come with wanting to use an 06 E40 in his 05 as a direct replacement
If it was a swapped vehicle, no issue. I ignored that part at first.

Well I have purchased a E40 computer today with a compatible service number not the exact service number. I dont know if it will work or not BUT it is a E40 with what I have heard is compatible and it came from a 2005 Rainer with the 5.3 so I guess we will find out.

E40 ecms can’t brick if you put a 06 calibration into a 05 ecm or vise versa. I know this first hand. I stick 06 ecm to 06 calibration and 05 ecm to 05 calibration
