Default Holley ECU-Terminator X vs. Dominator

I have been doing some research on the different ECU’s Holley offers. I have narrowed it down to the Terminator X and Dominator Series. I am brand new to any type of fuel injection and would like some input on what people think. In the early stages of putting an engine together to have in small tire drag car.

5.3L LC9 Aluminum Block.
Single Turbo

Some of this terminator stuff looks like it’s more directed towards the classic car/hot rod world.

Would I be losing out trying to use the Terminator X for drag racing?

Is the Dominator too much for what I am looking for?

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks!

Terminator: more budget friendly. Less features.
Dominator: more expensive, more features

if you are serious about racing, go dominator.
many even suggest you look at other systems more specific to drag racing which can include traction control, boost control, multiple rpm cut offs, trans brake output etc etc.
just comes down to budget.

That is kind of what I am coming up with too. They have a lot of the same features but Dominator has more outputs and I found out allowed for low impedance injectors. Dominator is looking like the way for me.

the i/o's on the terminator go so fast

and then your looking at trans line pressure and boost scramble like they're your kids and one of them has to die

so would you say with my turbo Silverado that’d have: 2step, T brake, Bump box, Boost Control (maybe Co2), Fans, etc.. there wouldn’t be enough I/O to do everything I need it to, with the Terminator X Max?!

Termy x gets you 4 in and 4 out, so you would be cutting it close.

im still setting up my termx and its a good deal and met my requirements but its definitely a bit of a disappointment if you start digging in past the initial wizard setup.

You can do almost anything on the handheld BUT its 10x easier to do it all on a computer and then load it on to the SD card or use the USB-CAN cable.

maybe i messed something up, but i did the wizard in the car then downloaded the tune and opened it up on my computer and most of the tune was just bad. i set it as a boost 5.3 and it had full timing (36° !!) up past 16psi, knock tables were all zero, afr target table was a mess. but even looking past that all the table axis for temp was like -40 to 999, almost all tables and settings that should have default values were zero (like knock) and stuff like that so i had to go through and rescale a ton of tables. no idea how it was like that, but im pretty sure that tune would have fragged a piston pretty quick if i had run it under power without reviewing it on a computer.

i have fast 57# injectors, and the only way to set a non-preset injector with the screen is a 1" wide slider with a scale of 0 to 999 #

The Wizard is only for initial start up. Any serious tuning needs to be done on a lap top using the software.

Don't forget that the Dominator can drive low impedance injectors and the Terminator cannon. For high HP applications that's a big deal.

The amount of I/O s on the Dominator is the ticket if you're serious about racing. You can set it up for ALL the data you could want. Wheel speed, driveshaft speed, setup the maths, monitor all kinds of things. I know a guy who is trying to setup so if it gets too far out of shape, it can deploy the chute.

it's worth the money/time to buy/make a CAN splitter for your holley. you can have the 3.5" & wizard to do TPS autosets and quickly look at vitals and the lappy on the passenger seat for actual tuning
