Default Dyno Tune or Street Tune

Earlier this year I finished re-building an LS1, 243 heads, TSP cam, rings, bearings, oil pump, etc.. I'm going to start the car (67' Camaro) at my house next week. my question is should I get a dyno or street tune? Is it safe to push a freshly re-built engine? or am I just worrying too much. thanks.

If you didn't change anything that would affect the tune you should be fine.

Only things stock is pistons, rods and crank. TSP cam, Ls6 intake, 243 heads, I forgot to mention that.

You will need a tune for sure that is a decent sized camshaft that will not play well untuned. A good tuner will dyno then drive on the street to tweak any drivability issues.

Thanks I needed some reassurance. I thought I needed a break in period before the dyno.

What are your plans for the tune? Tow it to the tuner, send in the PCM for a base tune and drive to the tuner? I'd install a wideband to monitor AFR's, have you thought about buying HP Tuners and getting started with a remote tune, then take it and have it dyno tuned? I started off with a mail in tune then bought & learned HP Tuners and haven't looked back. The GEN 3 tuning is pretty easy compared to GEN4 plus tuning.

I got a stand-alone harness and PCM from PSI, the tune it has right now is enough to start the car. Then I would tow it to a local tuner for a dyno tune here in my area (couple blocks away). I will keep the AFR gauge in mind. But I don’t think I will do any tuning my self for now I don’t have a PC and This is my first LS build so I’m a beginner to all this. I’m more accustomed to carbs on big block Chevy. That’s what I had in the car before this aluminum piece of EFI. Looks prettier and is lighter let’s see how it performs.
