Default P1810 after trans install

I got a performabuilt Level 2 installed, along with a Yank SS3600 by local shop and I got a new code, P1810 (TFP Valve Position Switch Circuit). Car runs and drives fine, just wondering what this code means and how to fix it.

The TFP is on the valve body, and contains 5 switches. What MIGHT cause this is a bad or loose connection in the 20-way connector. See how it's connecting.

It's my understanding that Performabuilt tests each transmission on an actual dyno before shipping to the customer according to an email sent to me from Alan (they rebuilt my level III) and is stated so on their site. So IMO questionable that the internals are suspect.

I would contact Peformabuilt ASAP. IMO based on my experience with Alan for warranty 7 years after the installation, they warrantied my level III 100 percent and completely rebuilt it. They are decent to work with, but you need to call them to resolve the issue.

I would not continue to drive the car until you get the issue resolved. Line pressure can kill a tranny in a hurry

Are you sure the fluid level is correct. If the fill tube isn't installed correctly and secured it's possible to overfill and/or underfill. Ask me how I know that based on the shop that just recently installed my level III?

The code means one of more of the switches is not functioning or wiring is questionable. First thing I would unplug and replug the harness to trans. If this does not help give us a call to resolve.

I got under the car today and unplugged the connector and I'm no expert, but I don't think transmission fluid is suppose to be in the connectors pins.

Have you discussed this issue from the get-go with the shop that did the installation?

Did you actually see the transmission after rebuild from Peformabuilt before it was installed? Was it shipped to you or directly to the shop?

I sent you a PM.

Yeah, I had it sitting in the box in my garage for almost 2 months before installing it. For the time being, the light has gone off after I disconnected the connector and cleaned it then reconnected it. So hopefully that's all it was.

Good to hear. I would check that area for awhile for oil accumulation. It should stay dry.

With the 3600 Yank stall you might want to adjust shift timing and shift points etc. IMO some really good tips in this link for driveability especially for city cruising.

True - but the shop that did the installation should have been able to check that instead of the owner.

I agree, but since they did not, it is a simple task. My point is that my suggestion in the 2nd post was practically ignored, in spite of its relevance.

I did not ignore your suggestion. You replied at 6:34 and I did not see it until yesterday after Frank had already replied as well. Sorry that you felt ignored...

Indeed! Hopefully that was all that needed to be done. Car just needs a new tune on it now and it'll be good. Gotta baby it right now cause of the line pressure.

Well, the code came back on after a week. I will try cleaning the connector again to see if it goes away again. Thinking ahead, what could be a permanent fix?

Maybe I didn't drive far enough. The code turned itself back off.

Have you spoken to Frank at Peformabuilt since this occurred again? Did you ask if they install a new internal harness in the transmission for a Level II upgrade. RPM does for example.

There is likely a short or loose connection in the external harness that plugs into the transmission and/or internal wire harness inside the transmission.

There should NOT be any oil where the plugin harness connects to the transmission. If you have oil accumulation again there, it needs to be repaired. See link.
