Default How to dumb down throttle response for cruising.

Running an aftermarket cable TB on a 5.3 liter that is basically too large (92mm). This is 95% drag car that I cruise around town occasionally as well as to and from the track (8 miles). So the throttle is opening too much too quickly.

On silk smooth roads it is bearable and I'd leave it as is. The roads are pretty bad though. And the suspension is almost no existent and SUPER stiff. So every little bump or rough patch I hit causes my foot to move a few millimeters which in turn makes the car jerk, constantly accelerating and decelerating. This makes for a very jerky ride on anything but silky smooth roads.

What is the best way to dumb this down? Is there something I can tune in the software that would help? Or a possible mechanical solution?

I run a Standalone MS3 pro ecu, so I have a lot of adjustability. I haven't played much with this yet, was hoping for some input/direction before tackling it.

Most street TBs have a sort of "snail-shaped" place that the cable runs in, such that at small openings, a large amount of cable is required to move the TB very much, but at larger throttle openings, the diameter is smaller, so that progressively more throttle movement occurs for a given amount of cable movement as the throttles are opened. Is your TB set up this way?

It has the typical "D" shape, like so. But I am using the trans kick down kick out on teh RH side of the TB. I'd assume I'd be better off using the barrel/cable style mounting point. But the old cable literally mounted directly up using the kick down to the RH side of the TB. I'll get a pic of mine up soon.

Control it with timing is going to be your best bet.

I was going to say the same thing. Just soften the timing in that region and see what it does before trying to adjust airflow/throttle tables. My truck does something similar over bumps.

That cable mount point is right next to the central pivot shaft. If you move that cable out to the edge of that circle, the same amount of pull will result in less throttle opening.

You have very low resolution of throttle control with the cable in that location. That 100% is the issue without even the slightest doubt. Need to redo the throttle cable and run it in the groove as intended.

Absolutely redo that cable mount. A piece of gravel could have you smacking full throttle with that setup. I was going to recommend a more eccentric cam sort of setup until I saw that you already have one that is not being used.

I just slid a barrel style cable in the existing cable sheath. Using the lowest hole now. Worked really slick and its 100x better. Thanks all.

Glad it worked out. Sometimes the solution to a problem is already there.

It's nice to see a easy fix once in awhile.
