tuning support software question? How does the AMD Athlon work with LS1Edit or HPtuners or EFI type programs?
Does the Pentium 4 work better?
Is there a difference for tuning?

should work fine... for tuning you don't need all that fast of a computer... I use a 3xx mhz laptop and it's fine, others have used as slow as 150mhz ...
For scanning a faster computer can help but not a big deal... my 3xx mhz laptop runs the HP Tuners scanner just fine, it ran Autotap fine before that...
These tuning/scanning pckages don't need a ton of processing power....

it will be my combo tuning laptop and wireless internet laptop so I would like to take advantage of the newer wireless technology.
Do most laptops not come with serial ports these days? Is this whats needed to support the above tuning programs?

you'd be hard pressed to find a new laptop with a serial port anymore... an actual serial port is the best thing to use for most programs... LS1 Edit I would not even touch w/out a real serial port... HP Tuners is much more forgiving... if there is a prob w/the usb to serial cable HP Tuners doesn't just give up... it can retry operations and save the PCM
for the most part from what I've seen though... stay away from Belkin USB tol Serial adapters... they have alot of problems...

serial port is a 9pin port?
Looks like HP (Hewlett Packard) offers a notebook with Athlon XP and a serial port, just want to make sure thats what I need (9 pin).
