30 degrees, no knock at 196 CTS temps on a ***** out hot day, using the hptuners histogram. no need to add more but if there isn't any knock, no need to remove any

27* for the useable WOT RPMs ... I ran 28* and got a lil knock... but not bad... on better gas w/new plugs I think I can run up to 29*

Pre-cam and with the LS1 I was at 28 degrees with no knock. With the LQ4 and before my cam, I was at 28 degrees as well. Now with the cam I am at 32 degrees.

19-30 degree's. Cars vary alot between combo's. Most of the time the car isn't the fastest with the most timing before KR.

N/A with 232/238 cam and ported 241's....

27* from about 2800rpm on up to redline. There were higher values in at one point, but dyno tuning revealed reducing timing down to 27* actually made more power.

Yea, I have an argument concerning this in the N2O section all the time.
You guys wouldn't believe how many melt downs we see from to much timing
and no Knock Retard showing. Anyway, setting timing to the highest you can
without KR is just a crap shoot concerning HP and longevity. The correct
way to do this n/a is to run as much timing as you can until peak hp is
seen and no more. I'll bet a few of the guys running high timing are doing
so with no additional gains, but rather putting their motor in jeopardy.
I run 26° on my set-up currently N/A, and 14/18° on spray depending on
shot size. In my web I have a write up on pulling timing on the spray and
go into some detail why we need to pull timing while spraying. You guys
may get some insight on this issue, even n/a guys.
Robert

Robert you are correct the proof is in the pudding!
This is what happend to me, and never had any indications of knock using Hptuners.
Didnt change my timing after (bigger motor install) but I could hear a ping at high rpms. Redouce timing too 28* and from 32* and the car woke up immeaditly.

Default Timing

I experimented with this on my LS1 AFR 205 head/cam with 11.2:1 and a 224/230 @ .050" XEr lobe Comp. I initially had the timing at 24 and thought it was conservative, later revisted the dyno and experimented with 27 to 29 degrees and gained nothing at all. I settled with the timing at 24 degrees for the bulk of the WOT.

I attached of pic of two dyno graphs overlaying one another with two different timing settings the one in blue was a solid 24 from 4K up and the one in red was 27 up to peak torque and then 29 from 4900 RPM on. There was virtually no increase, definitely nothing to warrant pushing the detonation envelope on street pump 93. When the timing was advanced the A/F did go slightly leaner (13.2:1 from 12.8:1 or so), and still didn't make any more power.

There was 0 KR recorded.

after you increased the timing and it leaned out, do you think it would have picked up if you would have increase fueling/(AFR)
