Default Tech 2

I have been handed the opportunuty to buy a brand new Tech 2 right out of the hands of GM. (cause I take mechanic's class). I wanted to know, is it possible to tune the car with the tech 2? Used the search and couldn't find anything. Also, is it worth it over atap or efilive and Ls1 edit?

Edit: How about some specs on it?

Ok bump.

Also, I found out that you can re-program the car, but im not sure you can control the values, it said something about the cd that GM gives you.

As I understand it, you can stuff pre-programmed GM tunes
but can't detail-fiddle individual params.

you can program with a tech, but it is alot harder to do, as you have to manually enter all the stuff you want to change via a hex editing program, so just to change a fan turn on temp, you would have to go to the value manually, change it in hex format then save it back to the disk then download it to the pcm.. timing tables and gear changes are a pain in the butt.. its alot easier just to by edit or hptuners.. i can give you a list of hex locations if you want. or just ask me where a certain value is and i will tell you in any car or truck pretty much..

Just curious, what kind of price can you get the tech 2 for?

i had a little over 3400 for a new one with all the stuff to program flashes, then i had to make a bench programmer cable, or you could buy one from spartec.
ive only flashed cars this way a couple of times, its more of a "it was a challenge to see if i could do it thing" more than anything.. its just a cool scanner to have. it does all kinds of cool stuff i wish efilive did...

the tech 2 is an excellent tool if your going to be doing diagnostics on Gm vehicles. it can log mountains of data, perform communication procedure's for the vats, set options in the bcm, etc..

if your looking to Tune, the car, then you really need HP tuners, it's easy to use and allows you to delete codes also.

IMHO I would (and do) have both

E-Bay has them occassionally for less than 1000.00. You just need to ensure you can get access to the software cd's that have all the bin files, etc... to download to your unit. I almost purchased one about a year ago when the tuning software was limited to LS1 Edit and the SPS Interface was extremely expensive.
