Default lots of knock but at low loads/rpm

What causes this? I'm getting up to 11 deg. of knock at low rpm (1100-2200) and low load under normal driving conditions. It doesn't do it every time just here and there. It always seems to be when I take off in first gear though. I'm using the stock timing table. I already raised the noise floor to 1.9 to try to desensitize the knocks since I have a noisy valvetrain with the new motor.

Any suggestions?

Thanks
Frank

I have never had to go anymore than 1.4 , You might check PE enable set it to 20% TPS and 85 KPA and see if it goes away and if your running anymore than about 10-15 deg of timing at 1100-2200 its probally to much If you have a noisy valve train it could be the problem You can also limit the amount of PE knock retard to like -4 and see if gets past the problem and cleans up. Is this at WOT only?

Low load, low RPM is where EGR is supposed to be
active and there is an EGR adder table that pushes
a lot of extra spark. If you removed EGR and deleted
the codes, but did not disable the EGR and/or zero
the EGR adder table it will keep on adding spark as if
you were running the EGR-diluted cylinder mixture.

Don't know the state of the EGR on your car but '98
would have had it originally.

Damn your good. I never thought about that. I shut off the codes, but never zeroed out the table.

Thanks

I just looked in edit, I don't have one of those tables. Only thing I see is a temp vs advance table, and that's not it. Maybe the 98s don't have that table.

Wonder If I could copy a 01 timing table and use it since they didn't have egr?

No. As far as I recall, the table is still populated with values, even though there is no EGR. You need HPTuners.
