Ok I've searched through their website and wasn't able to find any info, maybe I comletely overlooked it.

Searched here read the stickies, didn't really find anything.

What is everyone using for a laptop for HPtuners.
Please list minimum system requirements and recommendations on a good laptop to support Hptuners. I don't want to buy a new laptop as it will only be used for tuning my car.

i bought a used referbished dell latitude 650mhz p3 with a 20gig hd & either 128 or 256mb of ram for like $500 about a year ago just for hpt...works great.

I have a powerhouse laptop I bought last winter, its overkill, but I dont want to buy a new one just for HPTuners.

You dont need a powerful laptop for this software at all. Buy the smallest thing you can stand, with a decent screen and make sure it has a serial port.

I have an IBM Thinkpad, 300 Mhg, 130 mb of ram for $200 with ac adpator cord if you are interested. Battery does not work but in great shape otherwise.

I'm sure any of those would work well but $600 for a used computer is a little pricy. The $400 laptop says it does not have an operating system.

this will give him room to grow a bit considering its got both serial & usb ports, more than likely a working battery, a cd-rw, win xp, & a 15in monitor.

I have a Toshiba Satellite 1675CDS, 550 mHz, 4 GB HDD, 198 mb RAM, Windows XP, paid $135 off eBay. Works great for HPTuners.

pretty much any laptop you can buy new in an electronics store...will work.
of course you can do what I did and spend 1650 on a laptop and realize that it draws so much power from a car inverter that the little wires on the cigarette lighter cause you to pop the fuse all thetime..LOL
Its ok though.. I just get arond it by running a new line over to the fusebox when I tune somebodys car

I thought I was the only one who overheats my 300 watt rms power inverter

My laptop is overkill in terms of tuning needs. I have a Toshiba a75 s231, 3.3gig P4 processor non centreno(slow) technology. I got it for its processing power for audio programs and such. but I can open and save scan files in a flash lol.

also bought for the reasons of Audio(my job...)
and to be a desktop replacement that is completely mobile

the problem is not the inverter.... its the skinny little 18awg wires on the cigarette lighter.... they cant handle teh power and teh heat buildup makes it seem like theres more amperage on the line than tere really is. basic electrical principals...ever notice how hot the lighter plug is after that fuse pops...ouch
I run a new HOT and Ground Wire for it when I tune a car...plus I need it for my wideband too...
I built a box to hold my wideband wires in with my +12 for teh car adapter...
and I just run 1 common 12v and one common ground for it all..
I out a 25wat fuse in it..and I have never popped it with a 12awg wire for my hot and ground.
I even just run the hot over to the fuse box on the drivers side dash and use a single prong slot to put it in and I use one of the front bolts on teh passenger seat as teh ground

oh and..by the way.. I took my laptop out of town on my last one off gig with a local sound company..and used my computer in teh semi we were driving(8 hr trip) and used my computer in the cigarette lighter in it..no problems case they have big enough wires behind them...LOL

I personally use a refurbished Dell Latitude C600 (1 GHz processor, 128 MB RAM). It works great for me.

As for a power solution, I actually haul around a separate portable jump starter box that I plug my power inverter into. It definitely lets me tune freely without worrying about the laptop battery crapping out while looking at my histograms real-time, and I don't have to worry about pulling power through my cig-lighter.
