Heads/cam 02 LS6 odd results: Updated
Ok, here's the car info:
02 Z06
Katech Stage I LS6 Heads
Katech 224/228 114 cam
Longubes w/cats (Don't remember the brand)
Borla cat-back
Cometic gaskets(Don't remember exact thickness, but slightly larger than stock to drop compression)
Head Studs
ARP Rod Bolts
Spec 4 clutch
C5R Timing chain and Coyles Hex-Adjust gears
A Procharger D1SC is going on the car soon, but we thought we'd check out the heads/cam results first. To say the least, they're very odd.
I'll post the dyno graph later (don't have the scan handy), but here are the rough results.
Dyno with headers/borla: 370RWHP (No tuning)
Smooth curve (TQ and HP)
Dyno with H/C/Headers/etc 371RWHP (No tuning)
Jagged as hell curve(TQ and HP)
The only code being thrown is a P0300. We haven't removed it yet with LS1edit. Using Autotap, there is no KR and timing appears correct.
Using wideband, the it is quite rich. Checking B1S1 and B2S1, the it is in the .880 - .900 range. When you monitor A/F on Autotap, it shows 14.3 - 14.4. B1S1 appears to be fluctuating more than usual, often bottoming out at .050 - .150. B2S1 responds as expected. Fluctuates, but spends most of its time in the expected range.
When making alterations with LS1edit, nothing appears to make any difference. A/F, timing, etc. No significant change.
My only guess at this point is B1S1 is fouled/partially fouled and needs to be replaced.
Any thoughts? Any other info I can provide?
Thanks,
Denz

somebody correct me if I am wrong but the o2's are not used at WOT.
so in theory a bad o2 should have no effect on your WOT power output.
I would look elsewhere.
only thing I can see the 02 screwing up is A/F not being constant if your getting big positive ltrims.

That A/F is sucking up at least 25 RWHP. You need to get it to 12.9-13 all the way across the RPM range. How much experience does your LS-1 edit tech. have??

The LS1edit tech has quite a bit of experience. They have done a ton of LS1 FI work.
B1S1 and B2S1 don't affect WOT, but if they are seriously screwed your WOT performance will never be there.
As I posted earlier, changes to MAF, PE vs RPM have made zero change in the A/F.

Bad O2s will effect your power output at WOT. I've seen guys running pig rich (when ATAP says O2s are fine) change out the sensors and cure the problem.
BTW, if your heads were ported for S/C usage, you may be down on power NA, especially if you open up the chambers a bit to drop compression.

I hadn't ben underneath the car. I'm not sure what headers they are, but they utilize the stock cats. They were already installed when the car rolled into the shop. It was also pig rich.
The cats are now coming off, and we'll do a few runs with open headers. O2's are getting changed tonight.
I'll update again as soon as we get some more info.

We pulled off the exhaust last night. Made a few dyno runs with open headers. Picked up about 10hp across the board, but it ruled out the clogged cat idea. Put the exhaust back on, ATAP'd again, brought the LTFTs in line and picked up 5HP. A/F is 12.8, maxing at 13.1, and B1S1 and B2S1 are no longer acting flaky. Back to square one.
Pretty cool night on the dyno though. A 1000HP Malibu, a Ferrari F40, and a Z06 with open headers. Fun at least.

Not sure if it makes any difference or not but the headers on this car are TPIS LT's

Thanks Mark. As per the suggestion of some of my Z06vette.com bro's I have e-mailed ChrisB and Julio at Cartek and asked them to take a look at this thread to see if they had any suggestions. Hope you don't mind.....Mike

BTW, Mark, The 2 guys in your shop today with the Cobra said I missed a pretty mean sounding dyno when you put my Z on there with straight headers. Wish I'd have been there

Oops...sorry, Denz. Thought it was Mark. I don't think we have met yet. Hope someone comes up with some ideas fast. I sure don't want to miss the first Z06 fest in BG, Kentucky in about 10 days. Getting real anxious.......Mike
