I see on your site you removed your air system. So is it not necessary? I really dont have the money to throw around with emmisions problems when we dont have emmisions checks out here.

Right on the money, thats the only one that has shown up. Even reset the PCM and it came back on after 50-100miles........ Did you have the same problem?

I hate to ask; I feel like an idiot, but where is this and how do I check? Should be right around the headers shouldn't it? So what is the problem here? a sensor or as wilwaxu mentioned above a pump? Thanks for your help!

Re: Secondary Air Injection (AIR) System Bank 1
Sorry to port twice but I just ran down and took a look at my car with a flashlight. If its what I think it is its the tube going to either side of the frontmost headers. I looked from there and the hoses made a T and the line ran down on the driver side wheel well to a little compressor looking thing in the driver side front. If this is it how do I check it -- well first how the hell do I get to it, there was like a 2" opening and thats it..... Thanks for all the help guys

Gotta agree with 98 black SS. Took the advice from this board (Toxic Texan) a while back and they were on the money. I spent 22 dollars on the check valve and 22 minutes of my time. Perfection. 98 black SS, cool name. I got a Black ws6, 98 of course.... Eric

Yeah but what is the check valve? And where is it located? Any pics of this or install sites or is it easy enough just to tell me where it is...I can figure stuff out pretty easily as long as I have a clue as to what im doing. Thanks though!

Re: Secondary Air Injection (AIR) System Bank 1
Haha thanks for the quick on the fly pics, I really appreciate it. Those little things have a sensor or they can go bad or what? Anyhow it seems alot cheaper and easier to replace one of those than to leave it at the dealer for a week and have them refill every fluid, align the tires, put new shocks on, forget to do the only thing I told them to, and charge me a buttload <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> Thanks!!

No electrical involved... Those check valves were on tight, the passenger side was bad on mine. You can do it, I forgot the size of the wrench and stuff. My slumlord has a digital camera, so he is the one to thank. EzE

It's easy. Got mine @ SP AUTO in San Leandro, Ca. Its an "older" parts store. I told them I needed an "air check valve that is on the emissions system", thats all!!?? My buddy knows how to post pictures and stuff, aka Slumlord. Eric

Re: Secondary Air Injection (AIR) System Bank 1
Been on travel.. Yeah, the air check valves are just a simple one way valve between the air pump and exhaust manifolds. Over time, they flutter and burn themselves up (much worse with aftermarket headers). They can be a pain to loosen off the hard line but otherwise a simple swap.

i had this problem too and the drive cycle on my 02 z28 said to start the car in the morning {cold start} . Thats the only time the secondary air pump works for a few minutes. Run the car at idle for 2.5 minutes with air conditioning on defrost on stereo ,headlights on high beams as much electrical load as possible and set your timer turn the car off at the 2.5 minute mark and start it check with a scanner and it should be ready .I was told that i should drive it after the process i just explained to 55 mph and keep it for 5 minutes come to a stop without touching the brake and turn it off and restart the engine but i didn't and it worked fine.

Air not ready
Did anyone find a solution. I changed both check valve because I ran into this problem on a past vehicle. I had a cat light on as well which ended up being a o2 sensor, that the mechanic that did my tranny swap. He crossed two of the sensors. Air seems to being the only thing on now. I reset it and still nothing. I driven a lot of miles it driving me nuts. I have no dtc codes.
