Question wich handheld tuner would you buy?

I've decided to buy a handheld tuner, i just cant decide between the Predetor II, Crane/Vinci, or the Jet perfomance programer. I'm kind of leaning towards the Jet programer but would like a few opinions before making a final decision.

Handheld may be cheaper in the short term,
but software tuning package is cheaper in the long term.

Maybe you're not interested in tuning, or you're not going to do many mods...

Once you start using the handheld, you wish it could do more things...
So the handheld is actually very poor value for money.

Happened to me, I bought a handheld, messed with it a few times, got frustrated with it since it let's you do very little, so then I bought a software tuning package and this was the best thing I could have done from the beginning.

My handheld sits at the bottom of my closet, and I am not going to sell it to anyone because I believe that the handheld is not the way they should go (the software tuning package has more than made up for my 'loss').

The software tuning package was the best money I ever spent, no regrets
(and I don't have any major mods [yet], but my car runs MUCH better than stock).

The decision is yours, I can only tell you my experience.

Regards
Joe

you can use any computer as long as you can get it close enough to the car and plug it in.

Any Windows desktop or laptop will work.

The EFILive FlashScan V2 which will be available sometime soon has "black box flashing" mode; this means you can modify the tune on your PC using the graphical user interface, and then copy it to the "black box", then take the "black box" to your car and flash the PCM.

The black box can also log data, and has a blue LCD screen on it.

See here...

Also, in the mean time, you can download the software and play with sample logs and sample tunes, download and install the .exe program from here (under the heading "EFILive V7.3.1 Setup")... http://store.efilive.com/download.aspx

I agree with what joecar said 100%. Look at the longterm, handhelds really don't offer much.

From HPTuners site:
Minimum Requirements:
Windows 98SE or Better
350 MHz PC or Laptop
64 MB of RAM
USB Port

Recommended Requirements:
Windows 2000/XP or Better
650 MHz PC or Laptop
128 MB of RAM

Very low system requirements with how computers are now a days. I have it and love it.

The 2 top ones are HPTuners and EFILive.

Do not ask which is best, because it may get the thread locked.

Goto the stickies to see more info.

It'll be the only software you will use everyday, multiple times per day
(I analyze my logs every nite, I flash my PCM before I goto bed or before I driver to work, I log during my commute, and repeat...).

You'll wonder how you ever got along without it.
