Default Speed Inc & BS3 Harness for Stock Guages

I spoke to Speed Inc regarding the issue of losing use of factory guages - I've been waiting for over 9 months for this harness that is for sale on their website, but no one can buy it because of manufacturing issues.

I explained that there are other like me that are interested in it and they told me that it could take another 6 weeks - this is driving me crazy!

Downside - they say that the fuel levelstill will not be able to work. So, if anyone else is interested in this harness, please post here - maybe it will help speed things along.

Upside - this new harness that they are waiting on is suppose to be less expensive then the other one.

i havent seen this harness to compare to what i did, but i dont see it as that big of a deal.

only way it would be worth it is if their harness allows you to take out the stock computer completely.

i have the stock computer and bs3 in my car and all gauges function normally.

you put the new coolant temp sensor in the other cyl head and leave the stock one alone
you leave the oil pressure sensor wiring alone
you leave the voltmeter/alternator/starter wiring alone
you leave all transmission wiring alone (i have m6) if automatic (-e) cut back and let bs3 run it.
you cut everything else away from the engine and replace with bs3

you splice the crank + signal back to where it used to go to the stock computer, sharing it with bs3.

thats it.
you got tach, mph, coolant temp, voltage, normal starting sequence, cruise control, fuel level, oil pressure and all and you can even keep your two speed fan function through the stock computer, and use the bs3 fan control output for something else.. like an intercooler pump

Dave, this harness would require still the use of a factory pcm.

I'm in the process of hopefully getting a 98 conversion harness, I don't like wiring at all.

For the record - depending on connectors it might be 6-8 weeks before we can ship. There will be a 'GP' price that we are trying to get at $200 less than we used to sell the harness for.

99-02 PCM to retain:
-Factory Gauge Cluster
-Fan Control
-Fuel Pump Control
-Air Conditioning
-Reverse Lockout (6 speed)
-Alternator

yea sounds like it

the crank sensor is the only time a bs3 wire touches a stock ecm wire. and i know that 98-02 all the crank sensors were the same.

twinturboCE did the same thing and his is an 02, though i have not chatted with him to compare how we each accomplished it on our own.

David, If you could find out if twinturboCE's worked - if it worked on this guys I'll try it too. I don't know if I can wait another 6-8 weeks or longer.

Jon, When I spoke with you Tuesday you said that you couldn't get the fuel level to work - did I misunderstand what you meant?

I'm sure that Mike Brown just wired in his BS3 piggyback style into his factory pcm and harness. That is the way to go unless you are not good at that stuff.

Would it be better to switch to a custom guage cluster w/ autometer guages? WOuld they work with BS3? Or would you hook them up to the factory PCM and then piggyback it? I have a 98 formula WS6..

Up to you. I have a custom cluster and some gauges for sale, the cluster fits 5 gauges. I'll get pics up at some point.

Send me an email to john@ls1tech.com and I will send you pics.

I'm too lazy to make a custom cluster, but it would look sharp.

Who'd you get it from?

So, it doesn't have the holes drilled for it? Or how does it fit in?

I'm asking $150. I had an ad in the FS section. I have 2 small Autometer gauges too FS, oil and coolant.

Actually I was confusing harnesses - that was the 98 to 99+ conversion harness I was thinking of.

On schedule for testing of the bulk production harness early January.
