Default Need a Tune When Changing States?

I'm buying a car in Ohio and bringing it home to the Phoenix area. The car was tuned by a shop in Ohio (PCM dyno tune), do you think it will require a tune when I bring it back because of the different climates?

If you have a scan tool, I'd log a few sessions to see how everything looks. Otherwise I'm sure there are some minor tweaks to optimize for you climate.

If you have a highly modified car running on that ragged edge or a boost application, I would stop at a good dyno shop and have it checked for LTFTs and WOT A/F, otherwise the MAF and barometric pressure sensor should compensate.

It's not highly modded...just a h/c, full exhaust with a mild tune. Makes 437 rwhp and 395 rwtq, SAE corrected on a dynojet.

The OS has plenty of tables to compensate for variations in climate and altitude, whether they are fully optimised for your application depends on how diligent the tuner is.. and how deep your wallet is.

That's a good thought about the gas. We've got crappy gas here (91 octane) whereas they have up to 93 octane in Ohio. However, I'm told the tune will run 91 just fine.

I guess my quandry is whether to fork over the $500 bucks for a local tune for peace of mind or not do it and risk the car not running optimally. It being a new car, I wouldn't know if it wasn't running optimally unless there were telltale signs like pre-ignition or surging, etc. *sigh* What to do, what to do...

Yes, fuel changes may affect stuff. But then thats not an atmospheric or altitude issue.

Dude their is no point throwing $500 at it unless you know whether the current tune is good or not. He might actually pay $500 to get a worse tune!

Take that $500 and buy your own tuning software. Then you can tweak the tune when ever you need for what ever reason you want to do it.

That sounds like a fine idea. I just need to find out if the tune is locked or not.

My SS was tuned at 21st Century Muscle Cars in Dallas Tx. (about 600 feet) and I drove back here to Albuquerque at 5500 feet. The only thing they asked me was what octane fuel we had here which is 91. It's been fine so far even after adding the Kooks LT's. But I want to go back and fine tune the headers soon though FWIW.

I just drove through Albuquerque two days ago on my way back from Ohio with my car. I didn't realize elevation was so high there until my GPS was spitting out 5500+ altitude numbers and it's in the 20's-30's outside. Brrrr! I was glad to get back to Phoenix.

The car's been driving great here...no problems at all. But I'm still going to get some software and play around. I'm going to change intakes in the future so I'll need to change a few things for that anyway.

With adding headers, I'd be a little worried I was running lean. Be careful.
