Question Is there a universal scan tool for all ODBI and ODBII cars?

I am really interested in tuning and want to open my own shop, are there any universal scan tools for all years of ODBI and ODBII cars?

Anyone with good scanners and info will be appreciated.

Thanks for the help guys.

the site isn't very informative on the scanning capabilities of this tool, does is support active driving logs, ifr, injector duty rate, o2 readouts. wideband capability, fuel trims...etc etc?

Anyone else use this or know of any other universal scan tools that are obdI and obdII vehicles of all makes and models?

www dot obd-2 dot com

It doesn't have the most beautiful GUI in the world, but it's very effective and covers everything.

The OTC Genisys is probably IMO the best universal scan tool. Are you looking at general auto repair or a performance shop? I own a general shop and can tell you that the dealer specific tools are really the best way to go since the repair information (Mitchell, Alldata) is written directly for the dealer tools. For this reason we have a Tech II, Ford NGS and soon a DRBIII Chrysler.

If you are sticking with GM, efilive has support for OBD1, obd2 and Can.

If you are doing universal, I like that otc genisys also.

If you are planing on doing fords, I would suggest looking into SCT software. They have a really nice Ford tuning suite, with free starting tunes and tech support is very nice. It makes it easy for guys that are starting out also. They have a scan tool for ford that is included.

Google Ease Diagnostics. They are an OEM based system for scanning and logging using computers and stand alone systems. Click on the Professional section, it will cover all your needs and more.
