Default I know nothing!

No seriously, my tuning IQ is about...2(1 point for finding this section on the forum, and the other because I actually read the stickies!)

I just built a new motor and will be doing heads soon, and a blower soon after, o yea...and I have a 200 shot going on....so I think I need to invest in some tuning software.....

I don't even know where to start, if someone can point me towards a the basic thing you need.....like a laptop, software, and I don't know anything else more than that...so please help haha.

The first place you need to go is to a real tuner... Tuning a N/A engine is a big enough problem but when you have heads, cam, and nitrous then it's going to be downright nightmare...

If you want some software look at HPtuners or EFI Live...

let him do your intial tune and maybe ask some questions.

then save about 5 copies of that tune on cds, harddrives, email.... make small changes from there.

Is this on your 98?? I recommend Hp Tuners just because you can SD... What I would do is buy it and have him tune with your software so that you don't have to buy credits again after he tunes it... Make sure that you get a Wideband 02 sensor... They are a MUST in tuning FI and in general... Goodluck..

Yes it is on my '98. Do I want to run a SD tune even before I go FI......just retarded cam and nitrous?

And by wideband.....just a wideband A/F gauge?

No.... You're gonna wanna get something like a LC1 Innovate O2 Sensor...Look at Dynotune ----> .... I would definitely go with SD because you're gonna have to anyways if you're serious about it... Just go to the dealer and get a 2 bar map sensor... If you want the part number go the FI section and go through the stickies... I suggest you start reading everything possible about tuning because you don't just learn it overnight.. Goodluck..

Yea tuning can't be done overnight. It took me awhile to learn how to use all the equipment.

The LC1 would be a good thing to look at. Also, if you have the cash you might want to invest in an AFR gauge so you can check up on things awhile going down the road!

don't get the one from autometer that's just a light show... Get one that actually reads numbers.. I know that Dynotune (and other sponsors) has them... Just wanted to clarify that for you because it would be a waste of money..

Dude, start slow! Id still go for the self tune deal. Just master the new engine with NA only. Once you have that well sorted add your blower, then master that etc.
If you jump right in with everything on their I can see tears forming!

The cheapest but safest way?

I would get the Innovate LC1, with one of their analogue gauges so you can watch the AFR without the laptop. it will connect to your laptop for exact readings.
http://www.innovatemotorsports.com/x...cat=262&page=1
$289.00

Laptop...whatever you spend on that.

EFI-Live Scan+Tune. $749.00
I think they still have the older version for $549.00
EFI-Live constantly is adding to what they support and they make the program better all the time.

You could do it for cheaper if you threw out the analogue gauge or tried to get it as a package. Sometimes the sponsors will have sales from time to time. you have to ask around.

Thats basically the approx cost to get the setup you want.

I agree that EFI Live is a nice software suite but the reason that I recommended the HP Tuners is because it has a SD option for 98's... I know that EFI Live doesn't (Unless they recently came out) and he's gonna probably need that if he's gonna be running over 6psi of boost.. Just a thought but they are both great options...

You were talking about a big nitrous shot and a SUPERCHARGER in your first post and you think $200 is a lot of money?

No, i'm all motor right now. Will have a 200 shot in about a month. Mid-end of spring will have my blower, without nitrous...it will spay the intercooler.

$200 bucks is a lot when I need a tune now, a tune when I do my heads, a tune for nitrous, then a tune for a new cam, and a new tune for the blower....

That I did.

I don't understand why if all you guys tune your cars.....why can't I. Obviously I don't want to break it, so I will get a baseline tune from a shop...but I want to be able to tune little stuff I change eventually.
