Default How do I Find the Can Protocol ??

I need the Can Protocol for my LS7 PCM (Vette), who do I need to speak to, or who might know how to find it ??

Or is this a Secret no one wants to tell ??

Thanks

this information is normally trade secret, so you won't find it all online.

Some may be published in SAE documents.

What kind of information off of the CAN bus do you want, and how much are you offering? Do you want to know how OBD2 CAN scanners work, or do you want to decode the data that is sent between units in the car?

Also, what tool do you have for a CAN interface?

Send me a PM.

I have one of these ... And need it to talk to my GM pcm to extract the engine Sensor data, Temps, Pressures, RPM, Speed and Lambda etc etc, other wise I will need to fit 2 of every sensor and thats just extra weight for no reason.....
But they dont have the Protocols to be able to do that....

Dont need it to the tune engine, will be buying some Tuning software for that..... and want to keep my FBW throttle so dont want to change the PCM....

any Helpers ??? want a nice test ride in my 630bhp LS7 powered Light weigth Lemans racer..... geared for 230mph.... Please....

Black Car with the GTW Plate....

This was the last Car I built and had the same dash unit, but we ran a M800 Motec ECU, with a Kinsler injection 434 SBC. The Can line was the easyest wiring I had to do, and would like to keep it simple again...

The project car I'm working on is lighter and has a much improved chassis over the last car....., but is basicaly the same type of shape. Fancy a ride when finished ???

Better power to wieght ratio than a Bugati Veron......

I think I understand more clearly now, what you're trying to do. It seems that product comes pre-configured with CAN setups for certain ECU's (911, Elise, RX-8, etc.) and displays/logs the data that it gets off the bus.

This makes the problem twice as hard. Not only would you need to decode the data coming out of your LS7 ECU, but you need to translate it into another CAN configuration that your device will accept. Its do-able, but would take a while to decode, and you'd still need a third device to do the decoding/translating in real-time.

Or, this Delphi Mefi 4B seems to be able to control an LS7. You might want to look into using this for your LS7 controller. I don't know any details about it, but it might be the easiest option.

I'm also fishing for the same data - the dash units can be programmed to accept pretty much any protocol specification.....given the number of tuning devices that are talking to these ECU's there has to some information in the public domain....
