Default LT1 to LS1 swap, how hard

I have a buddy who has an LT1 firebird formula, that doesnt have anything wrong with it, but it is the LT1 bird, and I only want an LSx powered bird. How hard would it be to:

A Swap the LT1 to an LS1
B Swap the front ends to 98-02 T/A front end.

Thanks for your help.

Sounds like your buddies' car isn't the one you want.

Too much expense and work to do that.

You'll need a donor car. Change swap everything from the gas tank forward. Electricial included. The gauges won't work unless you swap them also.

It's a lot of work. It's been done but will take time.

I think the LT1's have just as much performance potential as the LS1's. I think if you don't want an LT1 you should wait until you find the LS1 powered car that you really want.

The only reason that I am considering this is the fact that its so cheap. I mean $3500 for an F-body. Thats not too bad. I just have had a lot more experience with the LSx powered vehicles, and I love the design of the entire engine, and want to build another one. I had a 99 t/a before that had 386RWHP and 373TQ and then a buddy of mine broke it for me. So I still have a lot of parts from that guy laying around. Besides it would give me something to do rather than just sit on my butt playing video games.

Time I am not really worried about. Its just how much its going to cost. Im in the Navy, and as you know we really dont get paid very much for the crap that we have to put up with. So I am trying to cheap it out.

I also like the look of the 98-02 WS6 better than the 93-97. So thats why I wanted to swap that if I could.

Thanks guys for your help

Although you have time on your side, you will still be into considerable expense to do the LS1 and body parts swap.

If you want to "cheap it out" and spend your time more wisely than playing video games, a $3500 Formula should keep you busy. It likely needs some love.

Very true. I just want to get back into an LSx powered vehicle so bad. I dont have a thrill car anymore. I have my bike (2005 GSXR 600) but thats in parts and I cant exactly do burnouts or doughnuts in that, and my 2003 Kia Spectra is just a piece of ****. But it gets me where I need to go.

Would I need to get a different bellhousing to go from the 350 to the 346?

Don't waste your time. The new paint job alone would make it not worth the money, let alone the parts and time. These days there are a good amount of ls1s selling for $5-6k that are in pretty good condition.

Thanks for the heads up. I didnt realize that the LS1's were going so cheap. The thing is that I dont really want a Camaro. I want a T/A. Thanks again.

So why not a Dart 434 LT1 build? Should be more than competitive with a 346 LS1. No swap hassles and monster torque. Besides, Optis are fun.

I thought that only the transmission and engine harnesses, along with the ECU were different. Is the wiring for the tail lights, speakers, dash stuff, and the fuel pump that much different?
