Question about Ram Air hood functionality?
My '98 T/A is a non WS6 car. At some point before I bought it, a WS6 ram air hood was installed along with an SLP air lid...
Now I know that true WS6 cars came with the airbox with a larger opening which takes in air from the scoops, I was just wondering if the scoops allow more air into the SLP lid since it isn't quite as tall as the factory WS6 airbox.
So essentially are the ram air scoops fuctional (i.e. doing anything at all) or merely just for looks as it is currently set up?

...no thoughts?
The reason I was bringing this up was because I was tossing around the idea of going back to the flat hood that the car originally came with. I like the clean "sleek beak" look, but if there is any appreciable advantage to having the scoops I'd leave them on....

Looks like someone is trying to do the exact opposite of what you want to do

The WS6 scoops were mostly cosmetic in the first place. Basically if you don't like the WS6 hood, replace it with the original and I doubt you would feel the difference

Ha! Gotta love irony huh? I was thinking of switching because I like the clean look and it seems like more often than not these hoods find there way onto a good number of V8 Birds, WS6 or not. Don't get me wrong, it looks great, but it is a little played out- sorta reminds me of Bullitt rims on mustangs, you can't ever really say they look bad, but so played out!
Each to his own I guess, I was never a fan of "cosmetic upgrades" on cars. Putting "WS6", "STi" and "Z06" emblems/bumpers/hoods/wings on cars trying to make them look like a different trim than they seems morally dishonest

Any ram air affect they have is negated by the aerodynamic disadvantage the WS6 has compared to the flat hood. Basically by the time the car is going fast enough to generate positive pressure in the intake, the hood is generating lift and turbulence.

True but the car looks like a pissed off badass-mobile.

It's going to do little as it sits from the factory with the baffles in there and not sealed to the air box. But if you install a Jaam kit or lucky enough to get your hands on a BG ram air kit (hard to find) it will make a difference. You also have to remove the two baffles.
GM High tech performance tested the BG ram air back in 2005 (I think) and gained 2 tenths / 2mph in the quarter mile.

I don't think it would be easy but who am I. There are funnels that fit inside the hood to direct air into the airbox. They would have to be molded. There is a guy on here who is talking about re-creating the kit though.

Thanks for the offer, but I'm broke right now and paying to paint a hood right now just isn't in the budget.
I looked at that JAAM kit mentioned a few times...from the few descriptions I read, it seems as though it is designed to be installed on a WS6 car to seal the hood scoops to the air box...would this work with my current set up? The SLP lid and stock WS6 lid and openings are not the same.
