Buying a TA, thoughts on the damage?
Hello all, new to the forum today, and love the information.
I am looking at a 1999 TA automatic WS6 with 138,000 miles. Local seller that was sold on ebay but fell thru and now on craiglist. Seems as though an O2 sensor is out and the coolant level sensor. The wheels look like they might be losing the clear coat, and there is a curb incident that happened on the drivers side below the door. This is my only concern. Here is a pic of the damage, looks like the rocker panel was damaged, and not sure if I should be worried about this.
I think the car is good otherwise. He said he will take $5,000. I am in Indiana, so the price seems fair here. Thoughts on this and the damage on the door?

This is what I did when I found my T/A,
Ran a car fax
Negotiated a rough price
Put the car on a lift and looked it over for damage, leaks, modifications, replaced parts, tire tread and condition.
Drove the car around town and up to 70mph, checked for rattles, pulling or braking etc.
Checked all of the fluids, engine oil, trans fluid color and smell, power steering level and color, brake fluid level and color, and the anti freeze.
Asked for maintenance records...
negociated the final price and purchased
2000, 64k miles, auto, convertible, nice cosmetic upgrades, $8200. I then spent about $1200 on periodic maintenance items and misc items that required attention.
Hope this helps!

Without seeing more pictures or having some kind of history, its hard to say. Assuming it all checks out and the car has no big issues, I think $5,000 is a reasonable price.
Definitely have the car inspected prior to purchase by a reputable mechanic/shop and go from there.

The car fax checks out clean and no accidents. He said he had a curb that did that damage. I am going to look at it friday. I am thinking about taking it in and having it put on a lift like bg suggested and make sure the suspension is solid etc. I am thinking with the O2 and coolant level sensors, I will offer $4,700 and take it or leave it. Looks like the wheels might need a little love too, and new tires next season. I am looking for a daily driver when the weather is nice to offset the miles I drive on my only vehicle and have fun with this with some minor upgrades etc.
Thanks for the advice...wish me luck!

Dude, that rocker panel (under the plastic skirt) is wrinkled, it looks like the car was high-centered on something tall, which probably also means the suspension took a whack getting up and over whatever crushed the rocker. The rocker is a key structural component of the body shell, and once that is distorted, it'll never be the same. I'd steer clear of this car.

Although the o2 sensors and coolent level sensor are cheap cheap cheap common replacements, the rocker panel does seem screwed up. Offer 4 if everything else checks out if you still want the car.
