Started prepping the sail panel today. Had to peel all the urethane off the back.

This was after the first round of primer and sanding. Excited to get this going

I've heard it's a nightmare to get one off intact.

I wouldn’t say so. That harbor freight windshield tool made quick work of it. Despite me losing the handles and having to rig some heater hose as handles lol.

me and my fiancé had it off in less than an hour. Once that wire got hot it was cruising. Even left the hatch closed on the donor car (didn’t have a choice lol). Just stood on top and sawed. Not going to say it wasn’t physically taxing, but I’d do it again for sure. Was most concerned with nicking the panel, but it got out relatively unscathed.

Progress on the sail panel. Still have to finish wet sanding, but it's coming out pretty good!

Definitely had a few hiccups while trying to paint. Mostly of my own doing. Really could have used a booth, but I was working with what I got!

First attempt I had a good bit of tiger striping, then I had a fly land on the panel while I simultaneously ran out of base coat. I tried to pull him off the panel and ended up nicking it. Ordered more base coat and waited a week for that to come in.

Second attempt resulted in the nozzle sputtering and splotching the panel. Waited a day and sanded it down again.

Third attempt came out good! Needed a fair amount of wet sanding, but I'm happy with how it's coming along. Paint match is close as well!

Checking the color match. Still need to sand the sides down...

A good trick also if you want better coverage with a rattle can is to let the can sit over night, puncture a hole at the top to let the gases out then pour the paint out. Go to harbor freight and get a lvlp spray gun and lay the paint that way. Rattle can tips are awful.

Looks good though, definitely one of my favorite cars on this site

Appreciate it! That’s a great tip, wouldn’t mind investing in a spray gun, feel like I’d need to upgrade the air compressor while I’m at it, that thing is tired lol
