....the body of a 93-97 Firebird just seem sleeker then the 98-02 Firebirds? I know that from the doors back, they are identical, but it just seems that the 93-97 models have a sleeker line to them. maybe it's just the nose that alters the look. Same thing with the Camaro's.

Lets compare

This is kinda cheating with with front GFX, but it's the only decent pic I can find right now.

Or

And I put this in here for fun while searching for an LT1 front

I didn't realize there was a debate.

Yes, the LT1 style was definitely sleeker. Probably better at high speeds too. Even though it seems most here hate it, I like it a lot. I liked it in '93 when I first saw it. Whereas I didn't like the LS1 style until about '99 or so (had to grow on me).

One odd thing about them is that the LT1's front end actually looks lower over the wheel. IOW, from the top of the wheel well opening to the top of the fender, that looks much larger on the LS1. I'm pretty sure it's just an illusion created by the overall lines, but either way, it's yet something else to like about the LT1 front end.

Definitely like the LS1 tail lights better though (with the honeycomb, rather than the grid of the LT1).

I had a post a few month back about the aerodynamic differences between the two styles. My '94 Formula feels less twitchy at 135 mph than my '02. I LOVE the look of the '96-'97 WS6.

imo the lines of the LT1 are way sleeker than the LS1s. I think they might be more aerodynamic, it would be interesting to see a comparison of the two in a wind tunnel.

I think it's because on the LS1's, the front fender comes up a little before it goes back down.

I think the LT1 Camaros look better than the LS1 Camaros and the LS1 TAs look better than the LT1 TAs but thats just me, I think alot depends on the color too. I have a soft spot for a black LT1 TA

This is how I feel. I prefer the recessed headlamps on the '93-'97 Camaros over the bulbus headlamps on the '98-'02 Camaros, which look like the design was stolen from the Chrysler LHS / 300 of those years (yuk). Conversely, while the '93-'97 Firebirds look fine w/ the headlamps off / recessed, but when they are on / up they look like a crying baby's eyes to me. The '98-'02 Firebirds' headlamps look wider / meaner when they are on / up, and when they are down look just fine. Add in the air extractors behind the front wheel and the more aggressive brake-cooling ducts on the sides of the T/A nose and we have a winner in my book.

The problem with the early 4th gen Camaro headlights is that they do not flow well with the body lines. This is a very rounded car, and those headlights (and fog lights, for that matter) are very angular which is not consistent with the remainder of the design. While I appreciate the heritage look of the recessed quad headlights (very reminiscent of the 3rd gens), and definitely appreciate the infinitely superior UV resistance of glass bulb housings, I can't deny that the later headlight design actually does suit the car better. With that said, I like them both for different reasons and would be/am proud to own either.

As for the Firebird/TA, I actually don't prefer the '98+ tail lights (which is something most other folks typically list as a preference), but it's not a matter of disliking the design. I just like how the earlier cars had a specific tail light for the V8 examples, and wish that had continued on the later ones.

According to a designer at GM I know, they took 4" off the front overhang when they facelifted to the 1998 models (the area in front of the wheels, aka front bumper) this is significant which accounts for the obvious visual difference between the two.

I think the 1998-'02 Camaro is actually slightly longer, at 193.5", vs. the 193.2" for 1993-'97 Camaro. Regardless, there is definitely not a 4" overall difference between these models and wheel base never changed (101.1" for all years), so the overhang cannot be that different. Or are you referring to 4" of height difference from the bottom of the front bumper to where it meets the fender (side) or hood (front)? The '98+ cars do look taller in that area.

I was referring to the front overhang change from the 1993-97 Trans Am versus the 1998-02 Trans Am- this the area in front of the front wheels (not the wheelbase, and I was not talking about a Camaro either). Doing a quick google search gives me the same answer, too. hope this helps clear it up.

The thing I've always disliked about the 93-97 Camaro is that they slapped a Geo Storm front end on the car.
