Default GXP mufflers on a GT

Does anyone think it would be worth it to put some GXP mufflers on a GT to get a little better sound for little cost? The car sounds like a damn vacuum cleaner right now.

Even the GXP mufflers are quiet. Seems like the best low cost exhaust mod is to get the resonators removed and add an x-pipe in their place. Between 100-150 at most exhaust places as I have seen on other boards.

How does that sound? The car is my girlfriend's and she drives sometimes as much as 1000 miles a week with her job. She doesn't wanting anything with a drone or even more than barely audible at highway speed.

I have the Magnaflow 16887 Street Series catback and it is barely louder than stock. It would probably be a good option for you.

There are 2 bottle necks in the GT exhaust... the cats and the rear mufflers. Changing out the GT mufflers for the GXP will get you a lower backpressure for sure. The GXP mufflers are almost straight through with just 2 bends.

The main contributor is the cats. Don't expect much out of any cat back system(compared to the GXP system) except for an increase in cabin drone. I would assume the same for the GT since it's still a v8 and has the same interior volume as the GXP.

Well it is an option, but i can tell you that this will increase the drone levels in the interior....just an FYI. I've rode a GT with this setup.

Now, some people are more sensitive to drones than others so take it for what it's worth to you.

Unless you are willing to pony up the $$ for a Corsa, any exhaust change will increase the drone level inside the vehicle.

GXP Mufflers: +1-3 db(A) on interior noise at the 4th order peak(Drone) vs. GT Mufflers. Much less likely to get stopped by the popo.

No Rear mufflers: +4-6 db(A) Aggressive??? I would say, more likely to get stopped by the popo.

+1 db(A) is 10x the power....it's on a logarithmic scale.

GXP Mufflers are approximately the same back pressure as no rear mufflers with y-joint.

Just providing the info so people can make an informed choice.

I know of a few GXP owners who put GT mufflers on their cars because they thought the GXP mufflers were too loud. Put a CAI on the car and it won't sound like a vaccum cleaner. I have KOOKs headers and x pipe with the stock GT mufflers. Its just a tad louder at idle and part throttle but when you floor it.....its loud. And I have no drone.

Did you have to modify the factory exhaust to get this to fit? (trying to judge if possible to go back to stock)

How good was the fit?

How hard to install?

No hi flow cats?

I am sorry for the 1 million questions I am asking everyone. I am just weighting options to find a nice system that ISN'T loud while driving normal but has a noticeable note.

If you are asking about my setup; the fit is perfect and it took 4 hrs in my
friends garage. I have KooKs headers, into the Kooks x-pipe with hi-flo cats and exhaust that flow into the stock mufflers.

If you look on the grrrr8 board there's a post with video of a GXP with this setup.

Yup that is what I am looking for. Something that will hook up at the factory locations with original style fasteners/joins cept for header bolts ect.

I don't want something held together by band clamps and slip fitted on this car.

The SLP headers (with high flow cats) and Corsa catback system I have is pretty quiet with normal driving, but it sounds like open headers on heavy throttle. Other drivers look startled when I give it the gas Its funny watching all the heads swivel. No drone.
