I say keep it mellow, but not as ******* asleep as stock 4th gen exhaust (watching the mailbox for my hooker catback ). Hate to say it, but the latest mustang gt has a pretty subtle, yet throaty note. Definitely not a muscle car sound, but great for an upscale Beamer-killer with *****!

I agree. Here's a sound clip for the new Magnaflow cat-back for the G8 GT:

Here's a link for the actual cat-back system:

Mike @ New Era just put American Racing headers on his G8 GT, and it sounds really good.

I'd really like to hear a G8 with both American Racing Headers & an exhaust system though.

Completely agree.
If someone was going to give me one, and I had the choice of two, and the only difference being the exhaust, I'd take the louder one.

Why not?
The ORIGINAL muscle cars were big family cars.
Chevelle, Impala, GTO, Fairlane. Hell, the TRI-FIVES are big cars.
Our BELOVED (completely sarcastic) Corvettes, Camaros, Mustangs, and Firebirds are in fact, NOT muscle cars.
IMO, the G8 (and new GTO) are more of musclecars than Camaros and Firebirds.

The original Muscle Cars were mid-sized cars with big engines.

The Chevelle, the GTO, the Roadrunner, the Fairlane Thunderbolt, etc. were mid sized.

Agreed, but they're still BIG.
So what's so different about the G8? It just has a couple more doors

Look beyond just the size of the car. You are trying to compare a modern, refined sports sedan to a car that is 40 years old.

The G8 is too smooth, too refined, and handles way too well to ever be compared to those leaf-spring, drum brake, bias ply tire "muscle cars" of the past.

That's the difference.

There are a few things that aren't quite right with it, but you forget all that when you stand on the gas.

I think you mean different mufflers because the ARH is a full exhaust system back to the mufflers. I just installed mine and really like it. It definitely has more of a V8 growl now but not obnoxious.

I believe it already comes with decent exhaust manifolds . I'd keep the CATS & do a #40 Flowmaster CAT-Back set up first . Then if it isn't loud enough go with headers & CATS .Personally , I like that muffled 550 HP BMW V8 sound , or the muffled 505 HP stock Z06 exhaust sound . These type of cars deserve better than the old Cherry Bomb Glass-pacs that we all know & love , don't ya think ?

If you had to post to get others people's opinion then you obviously are indecisive. Get a cutout for when you want to open it up. These cars look way too nice and classy to be sounding like a mobile all the time.

Your thoughts?
Hell Yea it would be out of place
I drove my stroked 383, long tube header, wild cam, straight exhaust TA to Smith and Wollensky. Pulled up right behind a Gallardo AND a SLR McClaren. I ended up parking it because the valet guy was too SCARED to drive it. I think i pissed off the owner of the lambo because i set off his alarm. He says... "Loud enough?" with a smart *** smirk, only for me to respond "Nope, wanna race? "
Rich pompous *** clown.
The funny part is, this actually happened.

Long story short, the point is find the most bad *** exhaust you can find and let the beast BREATH. Lord knows I would. A motor worthy of such exhaust should retain such exhaust.
You gotta keep a little bit of attitude around the fancy places like that.

Depends if your buying the car for the intention of modding the **** out of it or as being a child hauler family car.

I think an obnoxiously loud TWIN SCREW belongs on it!

Get some long tubes, high flow cats and a catback so there's no rasp but good volume and good tone.

If it was me? Black G8 with the 6060, longtubes, 3" pipes, !cats, and bullets or Borla muffs. No car is really ever loud enough for me, though.
