Default medium sized cam???

when i first got my exhaust and headers i didnt really want a cam but now i do. ive read posts about what different type of cams and stuff and i think i like the street sweeper cam. but i dont want to buy a stall converter. so is not want a stall converter a problem in getting a street sweeper cam? this is my only vehicle i have other than my motorcycle so im gonna be driving this pretty often almost everyday. so what would be the best thing for me 2 do?

We have used our Stinger cam on a couple of GTO's without a torque converter. It drives good and makes excellent torque and power. Not a radical cam at all. Just a good all around cam. 224/232 113

really man buying a cam and no converter really is wasting a fair amount of the cam....I say buy a converter that goes well for a DD as well to make the most out of the cam.

...bunch of crap that you neeeed a stall with the cam. I drove mine for 6 months before I put in the stall. The stalls needed only if your goal is to improve your 60 ft if you race. My cam would be fine for you 224/228 .600 .600 114 ...great power and stealthy on the street.

excellent advice. Honestly man, if it is a streetcar or DD, go with a cam in the 220-230 intake range. The STreetsweeper-HT is perfect at 228. Also, a torque convertor will completely change the way ur car feels. it will feel so much ballsier (is that a word?).

If i had an autimatic, i would pick up the SS-HT and at most a 2800 stall. That right there is the **** buddy.

well the reason i dont want a stall is because i was told that a stall is best used if your really gonna race a car not for a daily drive car. plus i know a cam and a stall is gonna drop the gas mileage. i just dont want it to drop insanely low like 16 or under is gonna be a pain for me cause i do a lot of driving in one day im talking about 75 to 100 miles a day. so with that, should i still get a cam or would it be a bad idea?

I'm really happy with my "mild" cam 226/226 591/591 @112*lsa
but I've got a stick (I still get 24mpg highway)
and with Headers, I throw down about 400/400 HP/TQ at the wheels

I'd say,
if you can afford it,
go ahead and get a mild stall converter too.
still gonna be very manageable

you got some bad info. A stall is not just for a track car. since its a street car, you wouldnt go big with the stall converter, that would kill your gas mileage and make the tranny run hot. However, a stall in the 2200rpm-2800rpm range is perfect for the street. it will not run hot, and will barely affect gas mileage. You may lose 1mpg, but thats it, and since you arent going big on the cam that wont affect mpg much either.

A new torque converter is one of the biggest performance and seat of the pants mods you can do on a automatic car. Even if you changed nothing but the stall, the car will feel much more powerful, especially if you tune for it (adjust shift points, stiffness, etc).

Believe me, a cam in the 220's (i highly suggest the streetsweeper-HT, or the streetsweeper-TQ if you want smaller) and a torque converter will make a huge, huge difference in the performance and feel of your car, and barely change your gas mileage if it does. You will be shocked how much difference it makes, especially when you punch the gas off the line and smoke the tires through all 4 gears. lol, nothing quite like sitting in a cloud of smoke barely moving forward while the speedometer reads 100+mph.

alright well thanks for the info. its gonna be a while before i get a cam now anyways cause my dad is paying for the car and he doesnt want me putting all this stuff on the car. but in a few years when i get it changed into my name im gonna get one. it gives me a chance to save up my money 2. now that i know this i am gonna get a stall 2. most likely gonna go with the streetsweeper HT. how much does that cam cost anyway?

cam costs around 400 bucks, but you will need some things with it (springs, retainers, pushrods, etc). All in all, for the cam stuff, it will run you around 900 bucks, give or take. If you want to save some money, find someone you know or in your area who will install it for you. You will also need a tune after you install the cam, and that will cost you another $400. As you can see, the **** adds up fast. So do yourself a favor, decide what you want to do to your car and do it all at once. This way, you dont have to keep getting re-tunes and spending more money, as well as the install cost being more expensive to do piecemeal.

If you want to do it on a modest budget, i suggest this...
Pace-setter long tube headers (about $500), Streetsweeper-ht cam and cam kit (900 total), and new torque converter (500). you are looking at about $2k, and with the tune ($400) and install (variable cost) you are looking at around $3k.
However, after you do these mods, you will be driving a whole different car. You think its fast now?? it wil be a friggin beast after.

yea it was a graduation present. yea i already got pacesetter headers and spintech exhaust. got the headers for a little over 400 and i can get it dyno tuned for 300. i didnt know i would need all that other stuff with the cam. that sucks! well its gonna be a while before i get it but its good to know all this stuff ahead of time. yea if i have to put all that on i would definately do it at the same time. the labor charge for that would kill me otherwise. no offense to honda but **** on that. i dont like them little ricers. so about 3k for all that mess. haha well it sounds like its worth it to me with all the power im gonna get. what would you say the hp would be after i get all that on? after my headers and exhaust and the tune i have 359 hp and 361 torque. would i be over 4 after this?

Go with a small cam like a 224/228. I have a low 230 cam and the only way to get it to run faster then with just headers was with at least a 3200 stall.

I don't think you will get 400whp. With a 224 size cam. I think you will need a more aggressive cam

im sorry, i didnt look, but do you have an 04 with the ls1, or the 05-06 with the ls2?
if u already have the headers, good. then cam+ converter is really all you need to have a whole new car.
