Too Much Power For Stock Driveshaft??
i know the stock 2 piece driveshaft on an 04 gto is the weakest point in the drivetrain. has anyone had experience breaking it? making 400rwhp too much for it. gonna race the car @ the track with street tire. if i change to a drag radial will it break?
Thanks
Anthony

I would have said the stubs are the weak link in the 04 drive train. Maybe you meant the doughnuts on the driveshaft?
You can find one piece shafts, upgrade your CV's and buy better stubs. Racing = less money and broken parts.

CV joints and inner stubs are the weakest links, then the driveshaft. I recently replaced my driveshaft, but I raced 3 years with the stock one and I was running nitrous.

If i ever mod my car a Carbon FIber driveshaft will go in right away. Nothing but good things i heard about those, plus people with CF driveshafts in every type of car note a noticeable fuel economy increase, and with a CF driveshaft even if i go to 1200hp i will never have to worry about it lol.
But if you are an 04 definitaly upgrade the stubs as well.

I'd replace the bushings in the rear suspension first, with the rear springs second. Follow that with stubs, then CVs with '05/06 shafts, and then swap in a stronger 2-piece driveshaft.

It depends on if its a manual or not. I put down 430rwhp on mustang dyno in a manual. Im on 275 50 15 MT drag radial and mine snaps driveshaft bolts alot. I have cryoed stubs and axles with a 3.90 gear.

Drag bags rule, they are my only "mod" if you can call it that, they do a good job fighting wheel hop, sometimes i still do but thats very rare, when i was stock, well my 05 had bad tires and every time i floored it in first it would hop immensely.
