Default Rear vibration/hop on light acceleration.

I noticed this first when at a light accel in second gear. Now its starting to do it in first gear. Is this a know problem? I feels like wheel hop but im not acceleration hard enough for that. If I accelerate aggressively its not nearly pronounced. 04 LS1 M6

Could be your limited slip. I'd try draining the diff and putting in some Torco and friction modifier.

Easy. Just make sure you can get the "fill" plug out before you drain it. One easy way to refill is with a cheap hand transfer pump. Use Torco 90w140. Put in a little less than an ounce of Type "F" (as in Ford) friction modifier and take her out for a few hard slow turns and listen for popping sounds. If it does add a little more modifier and recheck.

im thinking i broke something. Its pretty bad now. It feels like its mainly from the passenger side rear. its only at 10-20 mph but it feels like the wheel is going to bounce into the body.

Could also be a wheel bearing.

Or a bushing or a bolt. Better get that checked out.

The very first thing you should check are the half shaft bolts. This is a known problem with the 2004 GTO because the factory used inadequate locktite on the bolt threads. If those are are tight (12 bolts on each side), next check the to see if the CV joints are sloppy. Finally, check the driveshaft bolts and the carrier bearing.

Thanks for the tips. Its still under warranty so I dropped it off at the dealer this morning. From my understanding the warranty company sucks but hopefully it's covered. Ill update when I hear something.

You don't know how to jack up a car and check bolts? Holy cow! Why even post this thread?

Why bother when he can have the dealer do everything for free?

Seriously, so you would drive to a dealership when it's possible something could be wrong and take the chance of making it worse just to let some clueless tech look at it? Both of you guys, turn in your man cards.

He asked if it was hard to drain the fluid in the rear.....you guys are expecting him to jack up the car, find "halfshafts or axles", "CV joints", and driveshaft bolts and "carrier bearing"

-___-

In all seriousness, I'm glad you took it to the dealership. If you have NO inkling of how to work on a car, you're better off having someone that is supposed to know what they're doing fix it.

Lol, if it's under warranty then I wouldn't even touch it.

Work smart, not hard.

Way back when mine was under warranty, the battery cable loosened up and the car would not start. I suppose by your thinking I should have towed it to the dealership and let them tighten the cable terminal? Instead, I did it myself and was not inconvenienced with the car sitting in the shop all day and.or while the techs took turns driving the **** out of it.

I completely agree with Doug your own work you have to learn somewhere. But the guy asking about the difficulty of changing fluids was a different guy.

I'm pretty sure I was talking about OP's situation.

But by your logic, you should have a guy who has no tools or experience crawl under a car and see if he can make sense of it. Rather than taking it to a dealership, and if they **** up, it comes out of the technicians pay as well as it getting re done correctly.

If I did have a warranty on any of my cars, I'd soak up as much of that as I possibly could, I hate wrenching on cars.

lol The dealer said its the drive-shaft and are trying to find a replacement. As far as working on my own cars lol. Ive built my 86 mustang from stock to H/C/I and a Vortech S-Trim and tuned it myself. I think I know my way around cars. Since it was under warranty I just took it in. I was looking for incite or if this was a known problem, no more, no less. They said they are having a hard time finding a replacement and said they might just have a 1 piece shaft put in it if the warranty company will cover it.
