Default Top of the shifter broke

The handle broke and so now I have to grab the metal down below to shift. I have an automatic. It's just the top part where your hand grabs it.

What exactly do I need to replace and where can I find it?

Check for parts here:

You may have to register ( to sell parts) if you are not a member of LS1GTO Dot com.

I'm a member there, but the problem is that I don't know what I have to replace. Everything from the button to the transmission? Just the handle?

Still don't know what exactly is broke.

Look at this picture.

There is a torx screw (23) on the back of the shift ****. It holds the shift **** to the stalk. Are you missing it?

I think (23) is broken. I've had the car since last March, but it broke a few months ago.

I think you need #11, that is what #23 screws into. You can probably reuse everything else.

That's what I was afraid of. Where can I get that? Will I have to have a transmission shop install it?

It isn't as hard to do as the parts breakout makes it look. It would help to have access to a lift but you can do it with wheel stands and a floor jack.

It takes all of 15 minutes to take the console apart and check. What you are describing can simply be a missing screw. Take it apart and report back.

Why would the screw be missing? It hasn't always been broken. In fact, I'm fairly certain that the screw is still there. I'll go look in a little bit.

Well, damn. The screw is missing. I have no idea how or when it happened. What size is the torx screw? I wonder if the threads were stripped.
